  • Hummingbird 1197 SI

Looking at building a towed transducer fish for the Hummingbird 1197 SI. Does anyone know the inner workings of the transducers for this model ?
The cable I think has a 6 pin connector. I know it has left and right SI elements as well as downward facing. At each frequency is the same transducer used for transmission as well as receiving ?
I was thinking of adding a second transducer to (?) double the emitted power to get a better signal back.

    Hi Bob,

I know from my own experience how long the way to control of sonar technology can be. If you will go the internet-way there are some places on the web I like.

First, there is a forum dedicatet to Humminbird units where some Humminbird representatives are active (but you can't be sure they tell you proprietary secrets so some questions will never be answered):
    http://www.xumba.scholleco.com/

If you prefer some academic stuff this is one place:
    http://www.omg.unb.ca/GGE/SE_3353.html

The Humminbird transducers are all of the conventional type using the elements for both transmitting and and receiving.

You can't increase performance by simply adding another transducer. The beam form from such an arrangement would be useless under most conditions. There are many posts on this forum on the problem of combining transducers (many of them are mine) and they will tell you how difficult such a project is.

    Regards,
    Rickard
