I dont own a commercial counter, and it is a hassle.

I looked at maikng one on a pic or something and found a project on 430h site. I copied the code int code composer studio and bam.

Plenty of DIY microcontroller counter projects around, but most of them run into trouble with the input stage design, or total lack of one. Just a warning. Low impedance can mess with resonant circuit measurements, and the lack of gain/limiter will give a narrow range of measurement voltages. Worst thing is that it's hard to find if anything is going wrong without an oscilloscope or experience.
