I have just replicated this experiment, using a Laser Hawkeye, with exactly the same results. i.e. Silver coin detected when wrapped in foil, but foil not detected on its own. So this is nothing specific to the detector being used in the video.
What is interesting though, is when you open up the foil as a flat sheet and place the coin behind it, the coin is not detected. However, if you fold the foil around the coin, but being careful not to let the edges overlap at the back, the coin is detected. This effect appears to have something to do with relative surface areas. If the foil is unfolded and flat, then its surface area dominates the response. If the surface area is reduced by folding it behind the coin (overlapped or not, doesn't matter) there is sufficient phase shift from the coin to give an audio response. This is of course what you would expect.

Just had to do the same experiment with a PI. This time I increased the sample delay to eliminate the foil but still accept the coin. Coin was detected in all cases, wrapped inside the foil, behind the unwrapped foil, and behind the folded-back non-overlapping foil.
Again, this is what I expected would happen.

As an experiment, I have just taken a Garrett GTAx1000 (which has a 24 notch discrimination system) and rejected the notches that correspond to the Soda Can and other items, while still detecting a silver dollar and a small hammered silver coin.
The company's website is here -> http://www.belcorp-ltd.com/cms/produ...?id_product=24
Their claim is "The first metal detector in the world which detect silver and bronze coins and nothing else."
The youtube videos appear to be claiming the detection of silver only. Whatever ... it's simply has a preset discrimination window (or notch) that corresponds to the phase-shift associated with silver coins. Works well in an air test, but in real ground I suspect you would miss a lot of good targets. As all experienced detectorists know, you should use only the minimum discrimination necessary for the ground conditions.

I send e -mail to the company and they told me that can make the detector to detect only silver, but they contributed and copper because many people want it and are able to adapt in the detector only silver metal when the customer wants. Also you do not need to make gound balance and it works simply by opening the button and you will begin to search.Ι order one because it is simple to use and i see the results. I tell you the results later maybe ι will upload video with the results in ground conditions.
