I like the cool mentality the egyptians have but politically seen many poor
people have to suffer because all the money goes into the army or those
business-men who have good connections to the political leaders.

But the egyptian mentality and the very good sense of humor is fantastic!
With enough money and a good job, the life surely can be very much fun
and enjoyable at Egypt. Now we just have to find a way to make it happen!

OK, what can we do?
The customs refuse it that Arionas can send you a detector-PCB with good depth
and the "black market metal detectors" are extremely expensive.

I mean if your country meanwhile is a land of "special political system" you also
should be able to get a metal-detector by "special" services or bribing etc.

Enter the airport building at Alexandria with some of your found gold-rings
and ask if they would have some used handheld-security-metaldetectors.
You show the officer your golden rings and tell him that those are for testing
but of course you also would be ready to test if the ring fits on his fingers!
Long story short, afterwards you have a useful metal-detector for the beach
and he has some rings for his harem, wife or girlfriend.

The cheap method of course is that you use the arduino detector only with
some smaller coil, so that at least for small things you have good enough depth.

Can you please the guys where you bought it to improve the depth for you?
Or ask them for the circuit schematic and post it here so we might find a
way to improve this detector for greater depth. Do you know the voltage?

As far as I meanwhile know, nothing is illegal in Egypt when you spent enough bakshish.

But maybe you are one of the civilian victims of the regime so that's why you
first need alot of money. If the army is rich you should be able to get some detector
from there - even for free. But first you have to be sure you don't get into trouble

Open an old radio and exchange the PCB with those of the metal-detector.

1940 to 2012 so I can understand the whole situation in your country better.


But now we still have the following questions:

If it is legal and the inflation is very high you could order some cheap china detector,

Sure, gold is immune against inflation and doesn't lose its value as long as the demand
is high enough but also with other for the life important products it can be avoided.
A fisherman per instance still would have enough to eat and can trade the fishes for other
goods. But on the other hand: Every country also has its limit concerning population.
If the people have not much money they only can afford to have 2 children instead of
10 children as it is pretty standard in many areas of Africa. Or take a look at Indonesia
and you can see how they destroy all the rainforests just for earning enough money
for their huge and nothing than growing families there! And 100km everywhere around
Chernobyl people can live absolutely no longer because the have messed up everything!

It is sad what did happened with Egypt meanwhile, one of the lands of the most highest

whole world, but just a few can enjoy such privileges. Perhaps you can save yourself

Try 25 turns on a 25cm diameter circular coil.
Did you remember to fit a damping resistor?

you have 2 options:

1. future electronics should help you with the coil
2. ask if they can find for you another metal-detector

Thank you for the pictures - well, your coil looks pretty large.

I don't know how much power and sensitivity the arduino detector has
but perhaps it is better for you, if you start first with some smaller coil.


A law of thumb for coils is: Use the same amount or length of wire.

That's why some 1 meter pulse induction loops only contain just 10 windings.
It doesn't work for all detectors this way but pulse induction coils are not that
complicated to built. Just make sure that the windings are fixed tight together.
If the PI-detector is too weak, a too large coil will lose the most of its energy.
Perhaps the coil diameter limit for the arduino is ca. 30cm. Make some tests.


Anyways, I hope that you have now the direct support from the guys of
future electronics! And, they have shown already that the arduino works.
So the problems should be solved very soon and perhaps they even can
find for you some better metal detector! If they have good connections.
