Thanks Q for the project details, but it would be nice to see the 2n2222 changed to another NPN that has only one pin configuration , given the past history of people trying to find an equivalent amongst the multitude of X2222 configurations and getting it wrong.

In the Build Document you will see that the intended purpose of this new version was to correct a number of design errors in the original Baracuda clone. Particularly the errors that would cause the detector to fail and require component replacement. There are still a few fundamental issues with the original Baracuda, but these would require a redesign, and that was beyond the scope of this project.Originally posted by 6666 View PostThanks Q for the project details, but it would be nice to see the 2n2222 changed to another NPN that has only one pin configuration , given the past history of people trying to find an equivalent amongst the multitude of X2222 configurations and getting it wrong.
I agree that there are a few small tweaks that could still be done (such as the 2N2222) but we can deal with those in a REV-B version. There are no plans to address the more fundamental issues of the Baracuda. Basically, it is what it is.

Just bought one of these kits and thought that it might have come with a diagram showing which and where components are supposed to be placed. I don't really have a clue about electronics and may have bitten off more than I can chew but I can solder and follow instructions. If anyone has a diagram or a series of HI-RES photographs of the finished Baracuda Rev-A PCB then I'd be very grateful.
