Visualizing magnetic fields??

Hi,
Is there a way to visualize an active magnetic field from a coil? I'm thinking of working on a few coil designs and having a way to visualize the field would be very helpful. This might be an exercise in futility but could be an interesting learning experiance.

Perhaps you can put it into an elastic material (for exammple oil) and pour some iron dust into it ))) (Only an idea, not tested)

Rod, chop up some fine steel wool with scissors into into 1-2mm lengths. Buy a bottle of baby oil in a clear bottle with easily removable labels. Add ingredients and shake. Crude but easy and quick. Cheers, Allan.

try holding your coil against a 15 inch CRT (old surplus to requirements) powered up pc monitor, or try old colour tv and watch the magnetic patterns affecting the cathode ray beam, may give you some idea of the field generated. good luck

If u wanna look at magnetic fields of ur thing,
just use small inductor with 100-200 turns of wire.
Then connect your inductor to oscilograph with outside sinchtonization.
Well, u can watch magnetic fields working

Did this and used a strong magnet. Ended up withall the particles magnetized in a clump.
Now to find a way to demagnetize them...
