  • Metal Detectors Future

I was wondering how much farther could metal detector development go on. The cost of GPR is going down an hand held devices are around the corner, what does this mean for metal detectors ? Wondering is the next couple of years we will be working on GPR's more than winding coils, how do you think this will impact the manufactures ? Comments please. Best to all Jim

Remote-control ROV underwater metal detector ?
I know a large river in central London that would be a great test location....

Maybe, but GPR will need a lot better DSP to make it usable by the masses. Current GPR designs require significant training to interpret the results, and even then I question it's usefulness in most types of metal detecting hunting. That kind of DSP development will likely require a large expenditure of manpower, not the kind of thing a single person can pull off.

That said, there is a development being touted on TreasureNet called the "Cygnus-1X" by Avitech Technologies. Supposedly a GPR-like design. I don't know enough about it to say anything useful, so I'll just sit back & wait for results.

Thanks Carl for the thoughts, being in the business I am sure you folks in future look to expand your product line. I think some of the more common designs might trickle down from the military development. Deep pockets . Thanks again Best to all Jim

          ..
In coin hunting it is useless.

It suit to massive targets only.

Metal detector for home use - in quarantine conditions...Sorry for the black humor , but the future is very bleak . A huge economic crisis is coming . There will be more terrible diseases unknown so far . All the events that are happening now , were predicted more than 30 years ago . Pine resin- fresh, smells very nice . Slightly crystallized , or as honey -small balls are placed in the nostrils . For more than 1-2 hours . That's how you breathe .The resin balls are changed every 2 hours approximately. True - sticks to the nose , difficult to clean . But she always helped me to cure flu quickly. I have been using this method for over 20 years . I didn't buy any medicines , I have not been vaccinated .Must be collected from the tree without a knife- with fingers . Very fresh resin . I wish everyone health .

Resins from certain trees are very good, you can use it as tasty and healthy bubble-gum!
Use oil or butter to clean your hands from resin or rub it off with soil, I did this 100 times.

The development clearly goes to handheld and visual display - same as with smartphone.
Best example Deus XP and all the ridiculous hype around it. OR those OKM magnetometer
              apps! *laugh*

Most people are too comfortable to drag heavy coils around.
That's why I started this thread a half year ago about directional antenna MD.
Perhaps even a simple AM radio phase-shift detector (all-metal) would work already.

But the real fun part starts if we can "receive" metal objects from 10 meters away.

I think those who made the individual pieces of metal collected the metal on the surface of 30 cm.
After that, deeper machines will be needed.
