for my teacher, I have a problem with the CTX 3030 machine, one of the ICs is corroded and one pin is missing, I want to replace the IC but the serial number has been removed by minelab, is there any teacher here who knows the serial number of the IC? U211Click image for larger version

Might as well get a diamond or carbide bit for your Drexel and see if you can get access to the remainder of the pin. Just free enough area to solder a thin wire - part of solderwick braid - to it. Use a microscope and liquid flux.

there are no pins left on the ic, corrosion has penetrated into the ic section, so it is very difficult to solder

        3 possibilities:

        1. Trace out the circuitry around the chip. Sometimes that will tell you what it is.

        2. Ask Minelab what the chip is. They might actually tell you.

        3. Remove the chip and use nitric acid to etch the plastic off, then read the chip ID right off the silicon. This is the dangerous solution.

The chip in the picture has 14 pins, with ceramic caps on pins 4 and 10. It seems to have pin 14 decoupled by another cap, so it could he the power pin.

The 556 dual timer has the reset inputs on pins 4 and 10, power pin is 14, ground is pin 7.

maybe there is a point, I will also explore first, what ic is!! thank you teleno for sharing

thank you all my teachers, the machine is working, we used CNC to peel the paint from the factory, and managed to replace it, thank you

At least you could have told us what chip it was. You came asking for help and leave us like that.

I'm very sorry, friend, yesterday, the work of peeling using cnc was my friend, and apparently he peeled the missing leg not the paint from the ic, I just misunderstood the technician who worked on the detector, if I knew the serial number I would definitely share it here, sorry Once upon a misunderstanding

Ohhhhh! I thought I knew almost everything about hacking. That is one using Nitric acid to dissolve the plastic and READ the CHIP ID right off the silicon. My former son in law was a Chief Engineer for a chip company and never told me that one.... Okay, decided to say he was with Cypress SemiConductor, they sent him to China to open up a manufacturing plant there, he did it for them, then to cut costs, they got rid of him and my daughter, to save money. So anyone that works for a chip plant, remember that you are expendable when they cut costs. They save money by getting rid of the people with the higher and highest salaries...

Here is what a decapped chip looks like:

Here it is zoomed to the chip level. The chip ID is at the middle top edge where there is a gap in the bond wires.

Here it is zoomed to where you can read the chip ID. First you see the Analog Devices logo. Then you see "9950R1" so this is the AD9950 rev 1.

The AD9950 was the last major chip design I worked on. It was a GSM basestation receiver chip. On the left side of the chip there is an octagon. If we zoom in to that area you can see 2 spiral inductors. The big one is the main inductor for a tunable VCO that ran at 3GHz or so.
