I have a defective meter on a Bounty hunter DE280 Outlaw. Can I substitute a working meter from another brand of detector as long as it fits into the detector box. thanks Joe

The replacement needs to have the same current rating. Most meters are rated by their full-swing current, i.e., 50uA, or 1mA, etc. If the replacement has a different current rating, you may be able to modify the circuit to make it work, usually by changing a resistor that sets the full-swing current.
