I had one about 24 years ago. I spent a summer matching to my soil to detector small hoads. It did give go depth but I had to work at it.
How much did yours cost as I might be in the market for one in the near future.

the white's xlt machine has just arrived in the post. here is some photos of it as is. it needs a good clean. the two battery pods. the batteries inside are well gone with a far bit of corrosion on them. i forgot to take some photos of that. i thought that the headphone jack was missing, but you can just see it inside the case through the hole from the two photos.
i will give it a check over and see how it goes. fingers crossed it just needs the headphone jack put in place and the batteries sorted out and that is that.....

well i have had a bit of a check over the machine. i used my Whites SL AAA Battery pack to test the machine. it seems to work fine. the screen came on etc with sound. the headphone jack socket, the threaded end for the nut to hold it in place on the case had broken off. there is a couple of spots on the back of the coil connector on the inside of the case has some corrosion on it, but that should easily come off. as for the rechargeable battery packs. they are going to need a good clean up and some new rechargeable batteries put in place.
i am not sure if you can still buy the charger for these battery packs. or if anyone knows of a suitable replacement one out their.

                  thanks.....

The headphone jack is off-the-shelf, should be able to easily replace it. The charger is just a wall wart, 12V I think. I would replace the NiCads with lithium cells, 3 or 4 in series with a BMS protection circuit and a lithium charger.

i have now replaced the headphone jack. i have also cleaned up the hole of the coil fitting port back and front. cleaned the hole machine down as well.
now i am stripping down the crusty battery pods.

well i have now cleaned up the two battery pods. they cleaned up better than i was expecting them to do. i replaced the small wires with fresh ones. and re-soldered the diodes to make sure that they had a good fresh connection. all i need now is two new batteries to put in place and a charger if i can source one out.

am i right that the coil that came with this machine is not the correct original one that would of came with the machine from new?
when i air test the machine with some coins etc. the trigger all metal has really good depth, but in the pre-programmed settings, even if i alter some of the pro-advanced settings. the depth is not great and not that well responsive to a target. you have to wave a coin quit fast in from of the coil to get any depth. even a 2 inch size coin is hard to pickup at 6 inches with a fast wave over the coil. and sounds horrible.
could it be just the wrong coil on the machine? i don't know if my Classic SL ID coil will work on the machine. i would rather ask first before plugging it in, in-case it curses any damage to the machine. what do you think guys......

That's not the original coil for that detector, but such a coil was made for the last few years of XLT production. What is the code stamped on the ears?
