  • Troubleshooting a Garrett Ace 250 - need advice

Where do I start when troubleshooting my Ace 250 ? The unit turns on and scrolls through all the settings. But it lacks depth and the ID is sometimes off. There is also a slight hum in all metal mode. It as been tested with a new coil and it worked good for awhile,.. then started acting up again. My main unit is a Garrett AT max and the Ace is my backup, loaner detector. Any ideas from you guys are welcome!

I would start by looking at all the power supplies on an oscope to make sure they are correct and not noisy.

Well, I got it up and running and then it went all crackling sounding and turned off and it wont turn back on. Sending it to Garrett next week. Does anyone have positive experiences with Garrett repair department? They have always treated me good in the past but things have changed since Vaughn Garrett has retired and thing are run now by a new CEO and new board members. Just curious. Let me know if you have any information about this please. Happy Hunting to all

Good news! My Ace 250 came back to life! I decided to try it one more time before sending it in and it started right up I think I might have used too much deoxit spray on the circuit board and it dried out overnight. Hope its fixed.
