  • Vintage White's 6000/D Series II Issues

Guys I know she's old but I cut my teeth on one of these back in the 80's and made some great finds back in the day . I had one of the old hipmount machines on the shelf for years and just got it down to tinker with . Been so long I couldn't remember if it ran or not so I hooked up 2 9V batteries to it just to test . To my surprise it crackled to life and I got a threshold tone out of it and all knobs seem to be working and speaker . When I hooked up the coil however I get no signal at all using a coin . I did a ohm check on the coil ( which looks new ) and it checked out ok . The socket and pins on the detector look good with no corrosion . Just not getting any signal at all at the detector .
Anybody got ideas about what to look for here ? Click image for larger version

Well I did some research here on the forum and it seems the reason my detector has no audio is because I plugged the coil directly into the control box . According to another poster the coil must be plugged into the hipmount shaft connector which has the pinpoint switch which has its own cable that then attaches to the control box . Now to try and find the hipmount assy so I can get this old machine going again .

9V batt has very small capacity. connect the circuit to power supply with bipolar outputs and check.

          KT is right
i think you need a set of 9v and 12v batteries

Yes, it is supposed to be run on AA 9V & 12V battery packs, but in a pinch you can use a couple of 9V batteries.

Yeah I got the new battery holders coming . The 2 9vs were just for testing purposes . Trying to get a hipmount assy cobbled together now . Would rather have a factory part but that stuff is pretty scarce now .

nickel metal hydrite is died matter for me. those holder are very unreliable. the batts can refuse in any time suddenly.
look pics. 18650 2+2 system. it gives huge current and with STEP UP converter will work only good.

Made up a makeshift hipmount assy and got it wired up . I used a spring return toggle for the pinpoint switch and a new cable . It does operate , detect and discriminate ok but seems to be a bit unstable in threshold tone with some falsing and random chattering at times . I did attempt to clean most of the pots . Any ideas on the chattering ?
