No need to open a new topic... there are too many open topics on the forum anyway.
A little treat for fellow forum members... I discovered a real gem on Aliexpress!
Total costs with home delivery are around 5 euros!
While ordering this; I thought: "Damn, this is another Chinese nonsense, it doesn't matter; I'll throw away the 5 euros, it doesn't matter..."
And that arrived the day before yesterday. Of course, the built-in battery was completely empty! I had to put it on the charger.
        I didn't expect anything.
And when I turned it on and tried it... an unprecedentedly good thing! I am delighted!
I'm not a plumber and I won't be looking for pipe leaks with this...of course.
But I immediately used this on a variety of surfaces.
Especially interesting things I heard with this "stethoscope" when I put it on the case of my desktop computer, on the laptop, on the iPhone... on the XP Deus!
I won't tell you everything! Buy and try it yourself! Phenomenal gadget! It has such a wide range of applications! The only limits are your imagination!

Regarding the coil from the previous article... description... I suddenly had a flashback to a few years ago,
when one winter I corresponded intensively with the dear and respected Dave Johnson...
He promised me a New Year's gift, a Fisher ferro probe coil, because he noticed that I was interested in that side of technology.
Unfortunately, he didn't manage to fulfill his promise (I don't feel sorry for coil, but for Dave and his problems).
A few years later, I accidentally acquired a coil that is not of Fisher ferro probe, but it is similar, on a larger ferrite rod
there are several thousand windings (who will count)...
And today, a little while ago, when I happened to stumble upon this article and read the gist; suddenly that coil got meaning and purpose!
This story about the article and the project is not important... how much it is symptomatic because it shows some "secret connections" to the
memories of people who marked an era.
It seems to me that somehow in life the circle always closes.
(a bit of lay philosophy doesn't go amiss in these boring times)
There is no better place than this forum for a retreat of memories and history.

Speaking of memory fragments... a question for our Tony!
Tony! Today it becomes clear why you left Venezuela in time!

When we are already in such a mood(z) today (there is nothing better than that)... yesterday I watched for the umpteenth time
"The Gods must be crazy 1&2" movies.
The action takes place in Africa but the mentality, sensibility and level of humor irresistibly reminds me of Australia!
Paul... I have always wondered and it is still a dilemma for me...
When you get stuck somewhere in the Australian desert with a detector, far away from anything...
and when it "backs you up against the wall"... how do you manage to find dunny seat!??
Ok, that's a problem solved today, Minelab has provided a solution!
But I was wondering how you were doing before Minelab gave the solution!??

No problem. We are going to make the Quad-Bike large orthogonal IB coil detector then.

                  No more seat problems.

I dedicate this song to all fellow enthusiasts who have suffered a similar affliction far away in the desert!

Well ok, I see some potential for the seat invention.

Look, how much gold is there. This guy has the right detector. But I don't know, which part of the design is the coil.

I just tried, rather unsuccessfully, to picture how this crazy gadget works.
Unfortunately, the real thing is not heard on the recording.
Everything is heard perfectly well ONLY with headphones.
The reason for the failure is the "line" with the cable via the external USB audio card and the proximity to the speaker,
it collects too much microphonics and too much noise; which covers the useful part of the sound.
Ok, now you have a very rough idea of what it's all about. Take my word for it that with headphones this behaves drastically differently and better.
I will buy a few more of these gadgets. The "pin" used for contact sensing is a very bad solution, typically "Chinese".
We need to think of a better way to transmit sound (vibrations) by contact.
The amplifier is inside, according to the manufacturer's specs; with 13-15000x amplification!
                        With headphones, when I touch the "sensor" pin to the desktop computer case;
you can hear a very complex mix of various beats and processes happening inside the computer.
When I lean against the wall near the water supply; the complex sound of water flow is clearly heard.
                        Etc.
This will be a good toy for various experiments. But before that I have to rebuild the "sensor".

The whole story actually revolves around Carlson's Super Probe...
I made Carlson's Super Probe, completed the whole rig and, you won't believe it; the pcb has been sitting in the box for a year or so,
I hated to bother to pack it in adequate packaging!
When it comes to the final packaging; these are agonies for me and often at such a moment I totally give up.
This Chinese toy has the potential to be turned into a similar instrument with minimal modifications.
Paradoxically; I have a stronger motivation to modify this - instead of finally packing Carlson's Super Probe in the box as suggested.
