good morning KT: I had most of the older Gardners, first with the miniature tubes. The last one was the 180-c, all transistorized, with the 3' light weight coil. It was a fantastic instrument in it's day. It can still hold it's own for pure treasure hunting.
It was an off reonance type of detector. I still have the hand drawn diagam from one of His engineeers.
This was the instrument that I used to find the 8 muleloads of silver 8 Reales.

Back when they used these the biggest problem was getting all the finds in the car.

I thought it was a T/R but I could be wrong. From the looks of the variable caps the freq must be at least 100khz or more.
