A GS5 user in Australia reported that the detector gave a strong false signal at certain times. On talking the problem through, it turned out that he had the unit belt mounted, and close by on the same belt was his switched on mobile phone. My question is, when a cellphone is switched on in its receive mode, does it communicate with the network at certain time intervals. If so, this would likely be the cause of the problem. Previously, he had used the GS5 mounted on a shaft, and the problem wasn't there.

It's really sensitive monster and so detect my cellphone everytime... so I usually leave the phone in the car when go for a trip with my GS4 (actually it happens so rarely...). I noticed many detectors suffer from interferences by phones but this is unpredictable behaviour cause much depends on phone signal strenght and detector sensitivity/design that I just use avoid keeping phone , leaving it in the car or anyway far from detector or just shut off with no matter what detector I'm using then.
