    Hi,

"Many here sometimes I suspect are Keyboard Junkies,an arent always hands on in construction as much as they claim.else we would see more indepth construction info."

Hmmmm why not ??? Maybe I like too much hitting the keyboard... sure it is!

    BUT

the bad news for you is that I know what I'm talking about...

When I first realized the potential of GSIV was after I made it on protoboards... then tested on soil... WOW! Too sensitive for me I said... then went to the beach and remained simply astonished!

That was years ago... not months... then I experimented all over the ways with it... make variations etc

The first unit I made (on protoboards !) I sold for 1000euros (yes!) but to a person that I like as THer... cause usually I don't sell anything of what I make... he insisted much after saw in field results with that and , considering I spent so much time developing mods and making such dirty work on protoboards and tuning at scope, I decided to sell that glued "masterpiece"... it was huge and heavy... but HELL OF DETECTOR!

The person paid the 1000euros and after blessed me... cause he found at least 10 times worth (I don't know exactly) the "expense" small "treasure" within 2months. And still ask for newer... lighter GSIV I will never produce... cause as said, I don't sell stuff... and not interested in that at all.

Then I made 2nd GSIV using a PCB design (indeed really large PCB! but read further...) provided me by a friend who gave me permission of using his design JUST for me. Made it, tuned it... and works HELL GOOD!
I gave him back a complete assembled and tuned one (the 3rd one)... to thank him for the PCB design stuff... (so I made at that point 3 GSIV).

Unfortunately the 2nd one was missing in action... I borrow it to a team of people and still I haven't it back... maybe can't get it never again I think... but doesn't matter.

This one you see in pictures is the 4th GSIV of the series... using , always, magic/large PCB design, one sided PCB! and as always works like HELL.
As you can see the box is recycled one from an old analog sat receiver... (indeed is large PCB inside) and battery pack is made of NiMh cells but can be replaced with other stuff (and actually is for longer run) about easy.
Some part of assembly is different from original design of GSIV to optimize performance and stability.
The box is then carried using a shouder strap thing... with larger coil 1mx1m the device can also work as depth PI... if for beach/coins a small coil 8'' round w/ pole employed... and connected by the rear 4 poles connector + small lenght of low capacitance cable.

After I faced the bricks/pottery problem issue I used not much this GSIV... I had another upgraded in developing phase at that time... but I cancelled the project cause switched full time to VLFs. So I must have the 5th half assembled somewhere...

Also I made some modification boards to add functions to the original (like double pulsing) but this is another topic.

    So... think what you want...
maybe you're 30+ years in electronics but have no luck with MDs ... I don't know.

I can only say that what's reported about GSIV, schematics and everything is plain truth... just you have to make mods and fine tuning for top performances... as with all other MDs for that matter!

PS: please people here don't ask for units, or PCB files or tuning procedures or other details... I cannot provide anything of that...don't like repeat stuff forever.

    Kind regards,
    Max

I would like to have a go at the goldscanIV but is there a complete instructions on pcb and parts placement diagram along with instructions ...I dont want open parameters and trial this and that type of project because im fairly new to electronics and even the experts are having trouble when it comes to experimenting, but when it comes to building to drawings I am very confident and capable ....for example i had a go at the hammerhead and it has 11 pots leaving huge variables ...the project has been around for a while why not put the correct resistors that make the thing work and have only 3 or 4 pots to tune surely the measuremnts for resistances have been worked out ,and then put them as a project so that it is more straight forward to make...I mean my old xl500 has not pots on the board at all ...why cant somebody just put the correct values for the hammerhead on the forum ...anyway I have looked at the gs4 on the forum and it is inthe same boat too many uncertain values and have a look at the pcb I have printed it out and on the blue press and peel paper and tried it on a new fresh board and I can tell you it is impossible to make a pcb out of those pictures it comes out terrible on the board .so surely is the pcb drawing deliberately blurry makes me wonder....Can somebody put a correct working diagram with clear pcb and parts placement diagram so we can make it ....then I can find those deeply buried rings and coins

    Hi,
special configuration on GSIV let you do that.

For special config I mean a special coil, mostly... and larger than original 8''.

Indeed... I think many PIs can do that... if used with proper coil on almost dry sand... so far from shore (in wet sand performances at depth could be different). Problem is that once you have such monster you're also on the road for heavy work... once I dug maybe 60cms of sand to find a rusty paint can!

That's why PIs , though fascinating "on air" for the depth can be a real pain in the *** on real searchfield...

    Kind regards,
    Max

but if these guys are for real about 70cm for coin I am really interested but it recovery is as you say, then that poses problems for me it will not be practical to use so it will end up on ebay. But my question is.Is there a detector we can make that can detect a coin at around 50cm

In this months aussie gold magazine ..a guy was using a gpx4500 in an area and found nothing and then went and buaght a new whites GMT and in the exact same spot picket up 32 ounces of nuggets...Now what does that tell you ..and you know what I have owned of the GMT and my old garret vlf is better than the new GMT by miles and my garrett xl 500 for what I use it for is better than the gpx4500 cos I have used one aswell. And the price is not the issue here I can afford those machines but they are just not practicall to use and arent any more sensitive

Kellyco as any other trader in the world will gladly sell anything for the money.
It is all about the money. We are living in rude monetary system. Dont you forget that.

Do you think kellyco will sell my failed hammerhead pi as some kind of lrl mystery machine...jokes aside I have trouble at the beach ...everything is deep ...for example coins and rings are hard to pickup in deep sand and Thats what I care about deep rings and coins...

Garret's are good for primitive soils like sandy beaches. I agree. Never mind if those are old and obsolete. But if you want to gain better results, maybe is time to go furhter and buy something new. For locating single coin to few coins togather in soil, best choice would be some good VLF. But to locate larger metal masses, deposits etc.... at enourmous depths than PI is only solution. But i guess, you already knew that. But also you can not expect extremly good results on single coin in soil with PI detector. For such small and coloured item VLF is only solution.

I have owned about ten detectors in the past and yes marketing is the big thing ....I can tell you the 2 machines I now keep and really love is my 2 garretts one vlf and one pi xl500....My xl 500 can pick up a 20cent ozzie coin from 40cm and if i can get the audio to amplifiy better it will see it at 45cm no problem. And the best thing is they are both over 20 years old

VLF's are not more powerfull than PI's. Aint no VLF with more power than any ordinary PI. But first you must distinguish your primary focus. What kind of targets you are looking for? What depths? What type of soils?

Wait a minute Michael! We are speaking here about detecting single coin in pure sand! Remember that!

I have just had a look at the atlantis imperator mk2 ...it looks good too but its vlf and if vlf if is more powerful whats all the fuss with pulse induction..

Yes there is (are) actually. Explorer SE, DFX and possibly Minelab Musketeer Advantage...but with larger diammeter coils! And yes...new White's Spectra. Havent seen yet, but according to Carl's preliminary reports, Spectra is probably the best choice so far. Prepare some money Michael and go for it! For sure you will need much less money than to buy some lrl crap.

Perhaps you should take a look at this -> http://www.kellycodetectors.com/ande...nmasterrod.htm
