Sapienti sat!
That's right! Be careful not to do what is written in the patent, and that is shown on the video!
This is very dangerous and can lead to unpredictable consequences.

This is only because in United States, patents are known to the public. In other countries they have different laws about pattens. But eventually, we can learn how to build something ourself, or even copy more complex products, if we take them apart and study them. This is good for competition.
Same thing happened with King Cobra. The PCB was copied from people who taken apart theirm King Cobra metal detectors.
The point is that the video about Tesoro was probably intentionally designed to mislead any would-be detector designers, as Qiaozhi, so we have to be careful about what we take as reference from this video.

True dear Derx, but that does not mean that each company will not try to hide these things from becoming public knowledge anytime soon.
If the manufacturing of a product is considered by the public as something that requires expensive lab equipment or factory machines, then most people will not even think of doing it. Of course there are persons who know and enlighten us who do no know.

So, no one says that they have yet to reveal! This is a video clip from the factory and no more. And who is very interesting - he can gain the information you need!

It is more than obvious that companies protect their "secrets".Originally posted by Derx View PostIn 2004 year?
It would be very illogical to except from a company to saw you the exact and whole manufacture process of a products, thous giving you the knowledge to make this product yourself. Metal detectors can be made at home, it has been proven more than once, so they will not reveal this information.

King Cobra is a very good detector.
my rating

2.C-scope1220-non motion

In 2004 year?
Sample from "Prospecting America, Episode 48: The Tesoro Factory Tour," featuring Perry Massie, Vince and James Gifford. A tour of Tesoro's Prescott, Arizona facility. Produced by Joey Wilson, this episode originally aired on the Outdoor Channel in 2004. Go to: http://www.arizonagoldadventures.com for more information!

Notice how they're very careful about giving away any real details. Firstly, there is no mention of a nulling coil. Secondly, the initial phase-shift seems to be in a different position whenever they start the test for a different target. When they show the ferrite, the phase-shift is at the place where we all expect it to be (on the right), but earlier with the iron target it was shifted to the left-hand side of the zero-crossing. It looks to me like the presentation by the Tesoro guys was intentionally designed to mislead any would-be detector designers.Originally posted by kt315 View PostMetal Detecting: Perry Massie's TESORO Tour

interesting. Such cheap matierials and such few amount of matierals used, a huge amount produced yet still so expensive????
look as people in tesoro does those coils. there is a moment with o-scope. it may be interesting if you build the coil yourself.

thanks Altra! 120pf does nothing. I have learned this a time ago. you can look all tesoro and whites schematics and do not notice a capacitor on the comparator.

Kit315,
On my GM Cobra the cap is 15pf. The trim pots are both 100K. There is 120pf capacitor
on the back side of pcb, see photoAttached Files

thanks.
can anybody know a value of this capacitor? I believe it is 15 pF. in mine version of PCB were capacitors soldered at back side but their connection was strange unlogical and I did remove them.
