Magnetic field?

Hello everyone

I want to learn how to calculate or simulate coil's magnetic field.(for vlf detector)
Is there magnetic field simulation program or an example of ?

I use a dedicated MilliGauss meter for my hardware checks on coils in real time for my coil builds.all the electrical specs for inductance,resistance etc.arent always indicative of the field the coil outputs,for whatever reason.An essential tool very few actually use!
and I suppose can afford to buy?Cheers!

Tenmars,digital with data hold, ELF capable to 20mG,30hz-2000Hz freq. range etc.
is one of 3 units I use,couple cheaper units,an Analog scale Trifield and budget ELF hand held.all very usefull in the kit of test instruments.Try one you may be surprised at the outputs from coils on some detectors.some poor result,some very powerfull and surprising!I wont go there to list or describe the makes and models or coil types.

if you are a very talented freaky coder with physics basics, then look at the:
- Biot-Savart Law
- Maxwell's equations

As the coil can be an arbitrary shape, no analytical methods apply. You have to do it in discrete, i.e. treating the coil as a collection of small wires. If you want to do it more accurate, you have to split the piece of wire into the current density model.
As this requires huge computation power, you also have to make it faster with approximation methods (Monte Carlo method for instance).

This isn't a trivial job. You won't find any source codes nor how to do it. I can not recommend it as it would take a large time to develop it.
