If it uses the same source code as the ITMD3 circuit, then all the code is in C and you can download it from the ITMD3 forum. Then you can port it to whatever processor you want. If you don't know how, then this is an excellent opportunity to learn.

Practically any PIC you want, as long as it has enough pins. Peripheral register may vary a little bit, and if you use a lower speed device it will affect timing resolution.
