im still confused cause i get no response from the magnet but if i move the coil around in the air on the beach it does give signals...also my dual field coil cause it gives a signal on the magnet at about 1" is that a problem ????

If it doesn't respond to a whiteboard magnet, then it cannot be the Earth field being detected, as this is much much weaker in comparison.Originally posted by daverave View Postim still confused cause i get no response from the magnet but if i move the coil around in the air on the beach it does give signals...also my dual field coil cause it gives a signal on the magnet at about 1" is that a problem ????

If you move the magnet in front of it and get no signal, but wave the coil in the air near the ground, you could be detecting the mineralization. If you wave it in the air well away from the ground, you could have a bad coil connection or the cable is loose or you soldered the coil wire to the coil cable and the solder joint is moving. Alternately, you have your cellphone in your pocket and are detecting it or picking up EMI from it. My bet is you have an issue with your coil/cable.
