White's XLT Replacement Screen Issues
Bought a used xlt off of ebay and turns out it had a bad display . Picked up a replacement screen from another ebay vendor and installed it but it seems inoperable . I did the usual repair steps of removing ac converter and soldering in 2 new 6.8khz resistors and also tapped in the 5v 2 wire backlight power harness . Switch the machine on I get the usual power up tones and I checked number 1 and 2 pins on the display pcb and I have 5v there . I also applied 5v to the backlight and it came on as expected . But I get no display at all when turning the machine on . I am puzzled . The vendor did admit it was a used screen and had not been tested and did refund my money after I contacted him about the issues . Any ideas on why the display won't power up ? All the cable connections and plugins seem secure . I am including a couple pics .

Played around a little this morning with the display and a multimeter and I'm thinking I may have found the problem with it . Several of the smd capacitors showed no values and I found one that was open ( marked CF on the board ). Anyhow I got a couple of new LCD's on the way .

There is no direct replacement . They were gone long ago . They operated on AC current instead of DC via a converter . The replacement lcd's are 5v DC and are a thicker unit making it necessary to trim the case mounting bosses back to accomodate the extra width . Google replacing the XLT display . It opens up a whole new can of worms . The driver board it sits on has to be modified . It is an involved process and I have found nothing online that shows a step by step process . There are those that make money selling and replacing the displays and are seemingly reluctant to outline the process for the DIY'er . Maybe someone here has pics and can detail the process . If so post up . It would help a lot of people .Originally posted by nickel_n View Post

There is no direct replacement . .

Installation: It is generally a direct drop-in replacement for the original display module, though proper soldering and, in some cases, adjustment of the contrast potentiometer may be required

It's still thicker than the original and it still requires modifications and soldering skills to both it and the driver board . It's no drop in .Originally posted by pito View Post

Well back to the XLT display problems . This morning I put the suspect replacement display module on a breadboard and connected grounds and power to the appropriate pinouts . To my surprise the screen came on complete with a blue border and a working backlight . This has me thinking my problem may lie with the driver board the display plugs in to . I'd be completely lost trying to figure out component failure on the driver board and am going to try and search out the complete board . I have already converted this board with the resistor mods for the new display . Will the be a compatible driver board available for this application ? I've included a pic of the original one . PS The thing is I did have a working display besides the missing segments before doing the mods .I'm bumfuzzeled .
