Finally put final ICs in Eldorodo tonite....hooked up old Tesoro 10" coils and turned on .....not working!!! @#%#$

Lots of crazy beeps when playing with threshold.......


Got out meter to check voltages etc... found batery voltage only 5vdc...WTF! Then realize stupid mistake, 6 of 10 battery cell are dead... when I did battery compartment metalwork I just used anything I had lying around to use for dimensions and weight.

Hooked up good power and......works!!! Will do more tests and tuning soon... some pics..

I left it in middle position. Havent noticed some major changes when turning left or right. So....? I really dont have a clue about it's real role here!??

I think you may try with trimmer + pot combination. You may adjust it with trimmer and later fine readjust with pot.
We have here : 100K Geb, 100K Disc, 10K Sens and 100K Treshold presets. I suggest all those to be put on front panel as pots. Treshold is very usefull here. It will be oftenly readjusted, especially if operater is frequently using both modes; All and Disc mode. I founded Treshold preset as very beneficial in my kind of prospecting - the way i am used to work with md.

Thanks for advise and nice pcb! About multi turn pot for GB, these are very high$$, so I thought I may try good (25 turm) 100k trimmer inside box in series with regular carbon 10K on panel. This should give proper "resolution" (~10K per turn) for adjustment. Maybe this is not enough adjustment range? What you think?

That will work very good. I finished (long time ago) Eldorado on my pcb and tested. Works very,very good.
But, what i noticed; GEB potentiometer MUST be high quality multiturn. Only way to adjust and remain calm and stabille. Also enclosure; i do suggest metal enclosure (Al prefferably) or if plastic, than somehow must find a way and apply some sort of f.shield on it. Of course, enclosure must connect to pcb gnd. Why? Cose than Eldorado works fantastic! TGSL and Eldorado.... really need good shielded enclosures, works much,much better with than without it.

yes sure, the metallic enclosure is the best for them ... the shiedl of e.g. electrical noise is mandatory if wanna run at max sens, and also for statics is better having the pcb well shielded... so the best so far is full aluminium enclosure, no dubts.

As your talking about noise reduction and quality of ivconic TGSL PCB,
I rebuilt TGSL ivconic designd PCB .
Also I remember what’s iconic said, but need research TGS thread,

can search for the "gift pack"... all there. The PCB by Ivconic is nice cause you get fair noise reduction than 1st design or Vladimir's one.
The fact there's more space between ics and more rational separation of signal lines make it run very quiet.

That's then all an advantage about performances... you can easy push it to the limit of sens and still have it quiet!

That's not easy on e.g. original board! I have to say that , after make 1st design (the one on first page of thread I mean) then Vladimir's one then this last (with some add-ons I made ...you can see that I posted an Ivconic's design + some other stuff at audio stages) is the more stable and performative of the 3.

That's also cause there's no notch section in it... and things are spaced very good!

Eldorodo Project

Started work on new Eldorodo project. This is Ivconic 1265 PCB resized slightly. Installed most components and jumpers. Managed to put a couple a IC socket in reverse....damn!!!!! Maybe should sleep more and work less, but this fun right?.... YES, YES it is!!!!

Found nice aluminum box for project, so will be mounting pcb and controls next....

Well... have to say that, though both works as expected, the Ivconic's modded one is superior about noise reduction... works pretty much more stable than the compact one.

seems very nice PCB! Very good you're sharing that !

I'm on troubles now... cause tempted to try that design too!

I'd like to have your impressions on how the prototype you probably made performs... just to know about e.g. stability and relative noise influence.

From my point of view the pcb is really compact and good made but we have to consider also the effects of having near lot of ics and eventually what's noise propagation there and if it will create instability.
