My gtxa 500 goes through a set of battries overnight with detector off. also uses them up quick when I use it too. Any ideas?
Thanks JC77
One thing is certain ... there should be no current drain from the batteries when the detector is switched off. I presume you are using alkalines and not rechargeable batteries.
Have you tried monitoring the current drain with a meter?
Do you mean check current of holders out of detector or the detector itself?
First check that the battery holder is not the problem, then if this seems ok, check if current is being drawn with the detector switched off.
The GTAx 500 looks similar to my GTAx 1000, so I would suspect there's a fault with the electronics rather than a simple short circuit, otherwise the detector would probably not even switch on.
Unplug the battery pack from the detector and see if they discharge. Pull the battery pack from the detector and check the Ohms on the connector to the detector ! Every thing turned off!
It should be Infinite.
If battery holder was short probem there will be fire and smoke not only discharge.
Known problem by electronically switch off. Helps only a hammer, or the installation of mechanical switches.
