Be Warned, it is a Darlington and can not be checked as a regular Bipolar.

Just pop in a new one.

Thank you homefire but I made a simple test circuit with a 9volt battery,led,switch,470ohm resistor,10k resistor and found that it was working properly. You can get all the details from.http://www.nteinc.com/specs/200to299pdf/nte272.pdf if you can not get the file straight up go to the website and look up the cross reference on transistors there you can get a file on the substitute transistor with all the details. Also this page will show a lot of very good info on testing and details on transistors.http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/components/tran.htm

          FOUND THE CULPRIT (I.C) MC14011

Hello and welcome back homefire .I will like to thank the maker of this thread and special thanks to homefire for the schematics and Gold dredger for the amazing close up pics.Thank you guys.Because of your help I have the Deepseeker ADS working .And I have not put it together yet but the depth is amazing for the age.Like with the 7 1/2inch coil it pick up in the air text a half silver dollar about 14inches and a small light gold ring about 12 inches and in VLF full sensitivity a nine volt battery about 20 inches.I will run further checks when I mounted back together, since it has a 10 1/2 and a 14inch coils.THE CULPRIT IS BEING FOUND (I.C) MC14011 AND PUT IN JAIL.Thank you guys again .

            Master Hunter ADS troubles

            Gold Dredger/Conan:

Guys, I've been trying to follow this thread because I' ve got the same problem(s) with two Master Hunters, the ADS Deepseeker (toggle switch), and an ADS 7. Both went bad this past weekend. Were working well, then the sound went out slowly after the initial blip over a target. If I retuned, would get a good threshold, but as soon as I hit a target, the volume would steadily decrease. Thought at first it was batteries, as the meter showed almost nil on the battery check on the ADS, but even after putting in all new batteries, 1 was full right, 2 almost nil. And like yours Gold Dredger, the meter itself goes full right when passing over a target after the sound goes out. I saw the one response with the schematics and printed the one out that looks right. However, I saw transistor NSDU45 mentioned, but the schematic shows one with the number MPSU 45. Gold Dredger, which one did you have in your machine and what replacement did you buy? Conan, did you have to replace any transistors or just the IC you mentioned? Thanks in advance guys for any help. I really need to get one of these back "on the road again."

            Ralph

There the same! CEN-u45 can be used as well.

Yes they are the same. Swap out that part and you should be back in Bizz.

Thanks guys. I talked with Garrett this afternoon. Since I'm not really experienced with this type of repair, I'm just going ot send them both in. I know, I know . . . chicken, coward, etc ,etc, etc. But I really don't want to lose either detector. I'll let yopu know what I get back from Garrett.

Unlike MineLab, Garrett will have them back to you in a week or two.

Cost will be shipping and a little.

Let us know how it went.

                        Ticked at Garrett

                        Hey Guys.
Well, I finally got both of my detectors back from Garrett while I was out of town on business. Got home late last night and couldn't wait to get out today. Guess what? The ADS Deepseeker still has the same problem as when I sent it in to them. I've got a nice new battery tray, but the sound still dies out after a pass over a target. I spent over $100 for shipping and "repairs." I'm so mad I could spit. Of course, when I called, Garrett had already closed for the day. Man, I can't wait until Monday - are they gonna get an earfull !!! That will make me feel better, but it won't fix the detector. OK, back to Square One.
I'm gonna try to get one of the replacement parts that Homefire, Conan, and Gold Dredger replaced. Homefire, I guess I can use NSDU45, or MPSU 45 or CENU45 from what you advised Gold Dredger - is that right? Gold Dredger, if you have time, can you circle where that part is on the picture of your board and re-post it - PLEASE ?!?!?!?!?! Thanks again guys. Never send away what you should try to fix yourself (at least once anyway !!!
Can't wait to try out the ADS 7 tomorrow.

                        Ralph

                          ADS DEEPSEEKER

Hello Ralph sorry I have not responded sooner but I was away on a trip looking for Gold nuggets since the price is so high at the moment any size is worth finding. It's hard to relate your problem to my Deepseeker or gold dredger because yours, the sound is not dead (as you say) the sound is there but dies when you go over a target. That sounds to me like(ONE) the ground balance is not set right and you are too far to one side that is out of the ten turns you have you are too far to the left or too far to the right.Try different types of metals air testing them, like silver coin or ring and gold ring from memory go all the way to the left then go clockwise three turns that usually balances black soil, but picks up Gold and Silver.(TWO)If that's no good then check your voltage 36 volts for circuit and 9 volts for sound."But since you got it tested by garret that should be O.K .(THREE) Some capacitors are a bit lazy in line with the transistor we are talking about. My bet is more likely the ground balance side or a simple capacitor on the audio side.Mine was completely dead other then the battery check so it was a lot harder to pinpoint. Thanks to Gold Dredger and Homefire for the help with the schematic and pics. You can use any 5pin Grounhog coils for the Deepsseker they have the same wiring numbers and pin five does nothing.Red is Red Black is Brown White is clear and Earth is Earth. All you need is to wire a small cable with a male 4pin plug and at the other end a female 5 pin plug.Mine I have five different sizes. But anyway that's another story let us know how you go.CHEERS EVERYONE

Yep! The Problem we talked about was NO AUDIO!

                            you have another Beast.

Ground Bal, Discrim set wrong? Garrett has never sent back a machine to me not working.

Try , Try , Try again.

Was it working good before hand?

                            If so, tell us more.

                            Jim

I had a problem with my 6 battery power source. If you just put Batteries into the #1 circuits you should be able to use your MD with headphones. You dont need all 6.If you can find the 4 battery charger unit any 9v works with it.Just dont charge non-recharge batteries.
                              2 2 1 1 1 1
                              2-Never dies.
2-Stays about the same some decrease.
                              1-10hrs

                              1-30hrs
If you can find the 4 battery recharge pack, try that. Its not in the MD its self. The problem is the battery pack.
This works with Duracell 9v.Take the batteries out after every use.The Master switch is tricky. If it gets pushed to the left it will sound erratic. That is for depth and manual controls. All ways switch to the right for all metal and auto controls. This will search for every thing and you can still discriminate.
                              Sorry for all the edits
