Hello Everyone
"------without a working prototype that can be tested and shown to perform as claimed on real mineral type ground by real prospectors, and credible testers
Exactly what has been done and is being done by a number of good people who are not associated with any detector company!!

Speaking of prices, those are never that high at manufacturer.
What makes them high are many "hands" in path from manufacturer to end customer.
Many "hands" and many taxes and additional trivial costs.
So if you, by bad luck, are some end customer living in some distant and small country which is not covered with customer support and there are no legal providers there: well, than you will get your desired detector by very hot overall price.
I am such end customer with very bad luck...
At the time when i payed 850e for DFX - the very same time i could pay it only 470e if i was able to go and buy it in Italy.
Recently i payed 1495e for Deus here and i could have it for 1210e if i was in France.
See what i mean?
If you contact any of major manufacturer and ask them (p2p) for any discount; be sure you will get it very easy and sweet.
So all those "hands" in between are actually those which makes trivially high prices.
I believe that Carl has made a totally honest ,and realistic assessment
of the whole situation. Sometimes the truth is painful to hear.
I agree 100%,with his thoughts on schematics and patents, and their
worth. Those are not worth a plug nickle ,without a working prototype
that can be tested and shown to perform as claimed on real mineral
type ground by real prospectors, and credible testers .Anything less is
just another unproven project on paper. Videos and a big A man, by your
buddies just don't cut it for proof.
Suppose that I or someone else showed a map and paperwork to what
is represented to be a good gold claim. Then would not let you test it or
show actual positive proof that could be verified. Yeah the map or schematic
looks good, the claim papers give you exclusive rights like a patent. But until
you could actually test it ,you would be a fool for making an offer. So now
can anyone tell me what my papers are worth?
please note, that Carls opinion is biased due to his employment/business connection to White's.
Bugwhiskers has also the possibility to sell the complete QED R&D work to a company, which is able to produce and sell it at realistic (& very competitive) price levels. Guess what. They like potting coils and soldering PCB's all the day.
Cheers,
Aziz
I am sorry, but divulging that will make more corporate enemies, further inflame the detractors and potentially compromise a "bigger bully's" expectations.
what if you have a great idea for a metal detector, you show your boss a working prototype, he's very impressed, then he asks you for the costs involved, it's about 350 dollars just in semiconductors (adc's 75$ each qty 1000) , special coil needs to be made, custom software tuning for each detector, it turns out to be a very pricey machine to produce, very low profit margin.
would your boss be pleased with your work, or upset with your time spent in R and d?
would he want you to cut costs= degraded performance?
Philip
Depends on the performance. If the performance is head & shoulders above what else is available then it's much easier to ask a premium price. As such, he would probably take it as-is, and maybe spin a lower-cost lower-performance model as well.
It's easy to complain about a model being too expensive, but the reality is the market determines the price. Always has, always will. There are people who are perfectly willing to pay more to get more, and there's nothing wrong with that, whether it's cars or watches or detectors.
I can show my boss lots of patents and lots of photos, but what he wants to see are products. If all I got are patents and photos, I'd better look for another job.

Reason: typo
Bugwhiskers, what does this statement by you mean? You don't know if your QED might be copying another patent?
The QED schematic. If any circuit elements are copyright or patented, please let me know and I will change it.
If you are ready to change the QED that could mean a couple more weeks before the release! That is not fair at all. I hope no one challenges your schematic and holds up the release date.
Heres to good luck and the fast release of the QED my friend.
That other forum is sure mad! Especially Doug for being treated like a child by Carl. I think Doug is mad for not being in complete control of a forum! I hope he gets over it!
But Doug is still one of my many friends, along with Robbie H, Woody, Old Spinkta, etc, I have lots of friends.
I would love to have one of his puppys if they did not grow up to be such a big dog!
In the good old days, many electronic manufacturers supplied a schematic for their products to enable repairs. In those same good old days retailers had a markup of 33% on the cost price. These days it's charge whatever the market will bear. I am only interested in one thing, producing a competitive detector at a realistic price because the gold and other treasures in the ground belong to the people.
Nothing more truthful than that!
Of course i agree and support that!
But mobsters from our government here are not sharing the same truth we do...
That's why i envy to colleagues from UK and AUS!
