as they used to say in the old english dads army tv series: stick it upum

We all now how hard you worked for this so all the best, and god knows you deserve it.

One the best things what you and BW (QED author) can do.

    Best wishes to new team.

So you'll marry your exciter with QED. Nice. From what I understood, QED is the only design that takes care of S/N in PI detection by means of extended sample time (T=1/f, T^ -> fˇ-> noise~sqrt(f) -> noiseˇ), thus going deeper. Nice. Two flies with one blow.

I guess a you-know-what company will not be hurt that much because they are already established ... everywhere, and people are not going to throw away their otherwise working detectors, just because there is a much better detector available. Heck, I drove my li'l Fiat for over 15 years knowing there are much better Ferraris available.

A real blow would come if, and only if the interface of a new rig can be adjusted to provide look and feel of a you-know-which company's top line detectors so that faithful users do not get overly confused. In that case they'd say: "It is like you-know-what detector on steroids !"

You will be able to see what all the fuss is about ( or not ) in the not too distant future. In the mean time I will plug away at sharing as I much as I can when I can.
    *LOL*

It's the end of <... you know who & what ...>

I have got some VLF bits and ideas ready to go when I can get away from this PI business as well

i wonder if it will be open sourced?

I think you are right Philip .. this will be a year for major progress in home made detectors and open source should come into it ... I have got some VLF bits and ideas ready to go when I can get away from this PI business as well

That was just a quick web search. If I was a patent troll I would have searched more exhaustively

Your advice is good and you should keep your options open.

Personally, I take the view that it is up to you. It costs money and time to come up with new ideas and patents are a way to recoup that. Its your right to file patent and your decision when to share and if it progresses you will have to tell the world how it works anyway.

Just itching though to see new ideas and going crazy waiting

....LOL .. the purpose of that exercise is to show that a fixed damping resistor is only an approximation and not an ideal load for absorbing the flyback energy "efficiently" since there is "real" power and "reactive" power.

You must have smoked a nice bunch of MOSFETs this way.
So close yet so far ... All coils have caopcitance.

    Clue 3.

Calculate the complex FFT of a flyback and calculate the PF for each discrete term ... While you are at it integrate the instantaneous power over time and calculate the total uncorrected power dissipated in a fixed optimal damping resistance and see if it agrees with the real energy stored in the Coil magnetic field.

What is the importance of power factor correction ?

I dont hide it anywhere ...

    Clue 1.
we all ( should ) know that maximum power is transferred when source impedance = load impedance ... so a fixed damping resistor cannot possibly be the best damping solution for a wideband pulsed coil.

    Clue 2.
What is the importance of power factor correction ?
