Hi Sido you are doing a good job, BTW you can order the 4012 from RS Components and get free postage, and next day delivery if you order online by 5.30, also here is a tip, write on the order for the driver to leave the package at the door or wherever if you are not home.
Otherwise he will drive off with it and deliver another day.

one thing to keep in mind, after you program the chip, and you do a "verify" it may fail, but the chip is still programmed correctly, if i recall, moodz might have it set not to read the hex code back out for the verify to work... just a thought

Just finished etching the board. The picture below is the programmer i am building. Has been verified that it can program DIsPICS from the authors dedicated software which i have downloaded.

6666, i will keep that in mind, thanks for the advise. If i get the Surfpi working with V23 Unipi, will post my findings here or may open a new thread. Then once hopefully verified working, i will look at a making a descent board layout for field use. I am going to try the differential front end and Tinkerers schema also in replace to the standard Surfpi front end.

Summer is just around the corner. It will be great to get it working for the beach.

Hi, i will use the simple V23 Hex on the 4012.

Regards to Pic Programmers, there are several "Do it Yourself) ones using parallel Printer port that support both chip variations. Not sure how reliable of transfer of data will be in such large software to be transferred as the 4011/4012 Unipi has internally. Comes with programming software too.

A German site has Pic projects listed with PCB negative artworks and most plugin circuit adapters for almost all PIC's in use, from your basic DIL's to SMT devices. Very informative site for beginners.

The simplest programmer and software found for DISPIC series chips's for ICSP programming uses the LPT port and has a single 74LS07 as a data line level shifter and half a dozen other parts.

There is even a simple Clone Pickit 2 with Firmware program code, circuit artwork and schematic floating around the net. You need to program a PIC18F4550 though and uses USB connection.

Sido be aware some versions of Moodz software needed a start pulse, to get the chip going,pin 11 or 12 I think, I have lost track of which version now, he fixed this feature in later versions, but maybe he can comment on it.

BTW Sido buy yourself a REAL pickit2 programmer.

Yes the early ones needed you to push the select button so you had time to read my blurb on LCD but that version should just time out and start up after a second or so. A real pickit2 programmer is a good idea ... as you will get the serial port menu through as well a programming.

The last PCB published was as far as I got .... started working on the new detector .... ran out of time ....

Hi Moodz, thanks for the reply.

I am going to use the V300 Unipi 4011 chip for the damping control from one of the pwm outputs. Sampling as usual from 2 sampling pins on there, but where does the (ADC in) from the modded surfpi audio out connect too.

Do i use say one of the analogue input pins, say pin 2 on the 4012 connected to ADC IN in modded Surfpi REV3 schematic??

Doing it for experimental to see if parameters can be changed by using Unipi, seeing no one has posted and replied. Have the spare Surf pi board here so might as well give it a go.

I cannot see the revised Hex for it. Was it forgotten?

Started to add changes to silverdogs Surfpi longboard i have here, so to add the Unipi and realized no updated Hex for the damping control addition etc.....

Any chance.....If its to much of hassle, dont worry about it.

This one runs on the internal oscillator ... u dont need the crystal.



PS its called TX pulse 2 not damping in the menu.

PPS ... I never built this ... it was to give an idea on how to connect a UNIPI chip to a surfpi. ... but it should be mostly right.

Ok ... I have added the icing .... Q1 is the damping control Mosfet and is controlled by a filtered PWM signal.

Moved the sound to a PWM pin ... so you can have nice tones or clicking ( have to add menu item ).

Added an SPI port to the ICSP port which is also a TTL level RS232 port (so its a three way port LOL ). Never know when we might add some handy SPI chip to the Surf Pro

Added the crystal oscillator ( which was an oversight )

Thanks Moodz, so there is a input P.Button select to ground and a input P.Button zero to ground.

A bit off topic, does anyone know where i can purchase a wire wrap tool? Have been unable to find mine, found it easiest method to wire up to a dozen ic's and other components for experimenting, because it uses shortest inter connecting wires possible, therefore eliminating potential EMF and RFI in test circuits. I know RS and Element have them, but not willing to part the $70 odd dollar mark up they want for something that cost a couple of dollars to manufacture. Some on-line shop has them for $7 but are out of stock.

Thats a pin header ... the push button is normally open with one side to the input and the other to ground. When you push the button the input is grounded ... goes low.
