    There is no advantage to be gained by increasing the PIC supply voltage to 5.5V. The nominal voltage is 5V, and the +/-10 percent tolerance is to allow for possible variations in the supply voltage. You are chasing a red herring.

    I would advise making the design as it currently exists first, and then perform any modifications after you get it working.
