Odd number, 1/2inch or 15mm spacing seems to work. 20mm might.

Poke 3 or 5 toothpicks, wind some wire around them back and forth. Try some different spacings and see what you think.

Right now I am at 28 turns it's 250uH and at 3.3 ohms. Resistance is getting a little high ben better with larger dia. wire. Try to get back to it in a day or two.

Coil calculator I've been using. I got 330uH instead of 300uH the calculator calculates for the coils reply #43 if I'm measuring inductance right.

        Thanks will try it.

Made a spiral coil with AWG28 magnet wire to match RobN's coil specs. reply #1 to compare with Teflon coated wire. I'll shield it later.

For a coil with a 190MM or 7.5 inch inside dia, I've gone with 45.

45 is what I had with the above flat basket coil, 193mm I.D.

Green, what is the resistance on that coil? I don't have 29 wraps on mine yet only 27 or 28 and the inductance is low but my resistance is already up to 3.3 I think it was.

I calculate 3.6 ohms but measure 3.8 ohms.

I got the Teflon wire all wrapped up, 36 turns 311uH 4.4 ohms. Now I just got to figure out how to get it off the 2 sided tape.

Why take it off the tape, leave it on?

Well it's a under sight now and I wish I would have found something else but the only thing I had that was smooth enough for the 2 sided tape to stick to was a piece of sheet metal. But I think I have a way of transferring it over to some plastic I just inquired.

Ahhh....Maybe a solvent on the metal will loosen the adhesive so you can lift the coil/tape off.
Maybe hot or cold will release the tape from the metal.

Well unfortunately when I got home from work today all the teflon wire has came loose from the 2 sided tape like a spring popping out off a clock. It looked like a bird made a nest on my jig. The teflon insulation has a problem sticking to anything as teflon was designed to do. I am going to have to come up with a better jig. I used 2 sided carpet tape which here in the states is pretty good 2 sided tape but the teflon would not stick to it for more than a few days. Need to make a jig with 2 sides and a spacer in the middle to wind it on but the teflon wire is so thin it would be hard to make such a jig and keep it uniform to make a complete coil. I used 28ga. Wire and to me the resistance was to high so I am going to try to find a little thicker size wire to lower the resistance and make it easier to build a coil out of. In the mean time I think I will try to use this 28 ga. Wire to build a basket coil with. The only thing is all the basket coils jigs I have tried to down load from here are distorted so I am working on trying to get a true round jig the diameter I need to do so. Anybody that can send me a true round jig would be helpful or maybe a web site that has one. All that I have got from here are oval I guess it’s a internet problem. Thanks to you all and I will keep you informed in future teflon projects. Keep on hunting and find a treasure, Rob. P.S. I managed to save my wire!!!!

It is the display program that is distorting the templet.
I ran into this and took trying a few programs and settings to get them not to distort.
Ensure setting are NOT auto scale or 'fit to page'.
