oops. it shows sure a type of IC and all its substitutes, not codes. so this tester is more advanced than i thought.

this is a signature analyser (sorry do not know how it is in english right). you see some serial sequence of the codes on the LED matrix.
remember and compare that with working IC same sequence. if matches you do a conclusion the IC is suitable.

I never said the device was useless, I said it was not absolutely necessary, nice to have but hardly ever used in real troubleshooting.
    Luxury not necessarily indispensable. See?

You can always use this tester.
Very handy for J-Fets, Mosfets, Transistors-just plug in and check.
Also good for parts that should be used again from old boards
And even with new Elkos the ESR can be different

Nobody checks ESR of small voltage, cheap electrolytic capacitors in old metal detectors. They simply replace them with new ones as good best practice, including all tantalum. MOSFET transistor have predictable signs that they are compromised.
Fancy tester is luxury not necessity.
Before installing new capacitors, check each one against the other of same value for suspect defective one, it will show up as anomaly on ordinary multimeter.

every vintage detector needs ESR checking of all electrolitics. you can not be out from this tester. also no way to check a mosfet by ordinary tester.
you have to see the advantages. https://twitter.com/jburdeezy/status...12564980301826
