Thanks , Granted I didn't come up with the idea. I just made a copy.

'Anonymous clones' of the DL4YHF frequency counter on Ebay

Since 2016, there seem to be other 'successful builders', selling almost 1:1 reproductions of the 'DL4YHF counter' on Ebay (with the minor addition of a simple crystal test oscillator). I don't mind doing that, as long as those kits are offered for a fair price (which they were, at least in February and November 2016). But unfortunately all those kit makers / sellers "forgot" to leave a note about the original developer and where they "found" the sourcecode, firmware, and original circuit diagram.
If you found this site in a search engine, looking for...
    • "1Hz-50MHz Digital LED DIY Kits Crystal Oscillator Frequency Counter Tester" by "Banggood", or
    • "DIY Kits 1Hz-50MHz Crystal Oscillator Frequency Counter Meter" from "SainSmart",
    • "Frequenzzähler/Quarztester DIY Kit (Bausatz)", DARC Verlag GmbH, Baunatal, Germany,

you will know the rest of the story.
If you have problems with the kits mentioned above: Please don't ask me to help you out, if there is something wrong with the counter (or the firmware), or have trouble getting the cloned kit to work. In some cases, the PICs had been programmed erratically, with non-functional data EEPROM, not being programmed at all, or the kit was delivered with the wrong seven-segment displays.
Again, to clarify this: I (Wolfgang "Wolf" Büscher, amateur radio callsign DL4YHF) am not the kit maker or -seller, but the developer of the original circuit, and (more important for the entire project) the firmware that makes the PIC act as an automatic-ranging frequency meter.

Why don't anyone use Mic input of smartphone and Android apk frequency counter application of which there are many. The bandwidth of these VLf detectors are well within the upper limit of smartphone.
Also you can use Android tablet with nice big screen with free oscilloscope App for some basic testing.

bought this kit and soldered. in-general, this is a working set. but I got a stab 5 V, in TO-92, non-working. so first check the power. The stab was heated very much. I then directly connected it to the source and it just warms up and gives out 7 volts. Stab 7550 - the pinout is not the same as that of the 78L05.

temporarily soldered 78L05. for a simple frequency meter, the board does not have a jumper to quickly switch the stone from the generator to an external frequency measurement. so you need to solder the capacitor that connects the emitter of the transistor generator to the pin of micro. the signal through a capacitor - so as not to burn the PIC. either from the generator on the transistor, remove all the capacitors except the output so that it does not generate.
the scheme can not be found and the kit goes without it. but it's almost like a link. there is no jumper, on the diagram it is JMP3

Hard to set the offset with it but you can monitor wheter there is signal or not and sometimes measure aproximate values. The display is way to small and the range too. But for the money you pay it is exellent;-). Tried the usb with the external power on - still get the message "Device not recognized", so the usb function is really not working. However UART to USB can be used or direct UART for firmware updates. I've seing a dc dc converter used on the small power socket for powering(only) via usb.

External power is only way to power them that I know of.
