Actually you're probably right, it likely is the 1011. Looked over the datasheet again and found typical applications which matched the configuration here - along with a phrase "When the emitter is used as the output, the collector istypically tied to V+ and the load is connected to groundor V–."

I guess it was the output transistor that confused me - I'll stick with LT1011 after all!
