Vallon VMH3CS Mine Detector

One of my friends is a sales rep. here in the US and he uses a VMC1 at the beach while I use the VMH3 CS. The VMH3 CS is the better beach machine for coins and jewelry. I have some pictures of the newest generation VMC called the VMC4. I will ask Eric to post as I am not able to load pictures for some reason. If your objective is small gold and coins and jewelry, stick with the VMH3.
one noticeable change is color and carbon fiber verses fiberglass shaft.

Hi Ray,Originally posted by below2doe View PostHi again Eric,
Can you please tell me what is the difference between the vmh3cs, vmw1, vmc1. is their any references on the forum regarding the last 2.
Regards Ray, Below2doe.
Both the VMC1 and VMW1 are fully retractable one piece detectors which fold up into a neat rectangular package, including the search coil. The VMW1 is fully submersible to 30m so it would be suitable for deep water diving.
I suspect that the electronics is basically the same as the VMH3CS although maybe programmed differently. Neither have appeared on the market here, although I did see a VMC1 being tested on Youtube.
Eric.

Hi Eric,
It is in Melbourne and cleared by customs. So its about 50 minutes away by plane. So should have it by Christmas but their has been a strike so there is a backlog of items. Thanks for the information.

I would expect the Surfmaster dual field to pick it, but the Vallon should tune it out OK in the mineralised switch position. Has your Vallon arrived, or is it 'not far away' from Tasmania on its way to you?Originally posted by below2doe View PostHi Guys,
Has anyone tried the vallon over basalt does it give a target response. My dual field picks it up no problem. My Vallon is not far away from picking it up.
Regards Below2doe.
The ground balance has to be set up exactly as per the manual and sometimes on rocks or soil that give a strong signal, you have to do it twice.
Eric.

Good morning Eric,
Thanks for your extensive reply and the pictures. Yesterday we had finally a break with a little sun - so time for a short function test...
As soon as I have repaired the hole I will take it out to a river bank and have a test with some coins and alufoil.

Yes, your switch on sequences are correct. The vibrator is a small motor with an off centre weight on the shaft. It is clipped and cemented in the main box close to the left hand bolt that holds the battery bulkhead. It has two very fine leads, the far ends of which are soldered to a circuit board under the main electronics module. The picture shows the vibrator which is the white cylindrical object.Originally posted by Dutchie View PostVibration does not work.
There are three ways for turning vibration on:
1) press - before and during switching on and let go => should give vibration only but detector seems to be dead (like no battery)
2) press - and C before and during switching on and let go => should give vibration plus tone but gives tone only
3) press - and C and + before and during switching on and let go => should give vibration plus tone plus LED but gives tone plus LED only
My conclusion is : the switches on the panel are OK but the stick-shaker/vibration device not(including the possibility of broken leads or a defective chip).
Eric could you please confirm this diagnoses is correct.
You can see where the red and black wires are attached to the circuit board just to the left of the 24way connector. The main electronics has been removed in this picture. Note that there is heat shrink sleeving and epoxy over this joint to give it extra support and stop wire breakage at this point. This is a 2010 model and from the earlier models I had, I noticed that this reinforcing was absent. Obviously, breakage was a problem and as yours is a 2007 model, this is the likely cause.
Personally, If the detector performs all the other functions OK, I would not worry about the vibrator leads as it takes quite a bit of dismantling to get to. I do not use it in any seaching that I do, and it uses a bit more current unnecessarily.
Eric.

I am thinking about two adding coils: the first in the middle of the crossbar in the coil to get the signal IB like Eric suggest; the second elsewhere to get the sync for the discriminator.Originally posted by Dutchie View PostA few pages earlier the discussion was about separation Tx and Rx in order to be able to have digital signal processing/analysis.
Would it be an option to have a larger coil connected to the Vallon and a smaller diameter coil inside the same housing (well shielded from the Tx) and process the signal from the extra Rx any way you would like or
pickup the signal by having a tiny coil around the central lead from the Vallon coil to the Vallon PI(I expect a very very small signal there?) and bring it out for processing

Justin:
You must verify there are no metal particles in the lacquer. If not it should be fine. Here in the USA they use spray on truck bed liner.
Also some marine lacquers.

I was out detecting on the beach the other day and found a tin of black lacquer paint for boats interlac 665 does anybody think I could use it to paint on the bottom of the search coil of the vallon as there are a lot of rocks here and the coil is getting a lot of scratches as there is no coil cover ?
