Computers and dates.... one very stupid thing also is if you set back the date for what reason ever
and forget to put it back to the actual date afterwards and all new files then get a wrong time-stamp.

btw. what person here must answer to threads where the last post is 5years ago ah - junior member arti ...
and make them look new if you don't check the very small little date which is written not directly close to
the text message?!

However this way Carl gots additonal and "new" respect. And thanks for the update info of his career.

Perhaps I'm also should start working for some MD company - serious! Or at least over the winter-time.
If already working with improved or moded MDs is alot more fun than with the usual available devices -
best example the Garrett Pro-Pointer original vs. moded, some personal created and perhaps worldwide
sold professional produced detector would be just fantastic.

A real man should create something lasting in life like an important book (great job, Q. & C.!), a house,
a great invention or whatever the following generations still will keep in mind or what improves their lifes.

And especially treasure-hunters hopefully should find something real valuable or important so their names
will became famous in their home-countries or at least later in archeology- or other history-books. Good Luck.

Carl joined Whites in 2008,and moved to First Texas at the start of this year, so hoadies and Funfinder you're a tad behind the times.
Clearly you didn't understand the references to a time warp, and Ground Hog Day.

Great stuff.
Whites and Carl can became an unbeatable team on the worlds high-quality but reasonable price consumer market
including great new input also from the "tech-heads"-basis.
White's proved already with its TM808 that it is also open to not just the usual standard-detector designs.

One thing Whites for shure should go for are much more lightweight and deep-seeking detectors with larger coils.
And if those are much more resistant against electro-smog they even can beat Garrett with ease.
Something wireless like The XP-Deus also would be a into-the-future-leading thing that also can reduce
alot weight - a coil that works wireless with a smartphone or something like that.

Anyway, with Carls huge experience for shure something great will come out and we
will wait for the brand new model: Whites Carl I. or something like that

Seems there is some liberating influence concerning laws from the western countries.
In earlier times already to have a MD was forbidden in Eastern-Germany,
while now there even exists shops which sell them - and many people are using it.

The Skyplate from Nebra never would've been found there without this former liberation.

And usual eastern- to south-eastern countries may have all kinds of laws
but it really depends. Detector-users have been arrested in Hungaria and Greece
under not really human-rights representing circumstances while in other cases
nobody cares or just is concerned about the flowing money or what they think
it must be culturally protected.

Per instance on the one hand Turkey has severe laws about antiques and stuff
but on the other they will flood without hesitation 10.000 years old cultural
heritage regions for electricity waterpower-dams.

In China they sentenced someone to death who tried to sell one of those
clay army-soldiers figurines but they have no problem to sell faked antiques to
tourists for extreme high prices (production cost 0,1 dollar, price in store: 150 dollars)

In the Ukraine and Russia you can have alot "fun" with a metal detector if you wanna
find remainings from WW2 or skeletons. There exists even groups which dig out the
remainings of the soldiers and try to sell them to the relatives in other countries for
a high price. In some regions, this also concerns whole Middle-Europe, someone
first has to remove thousands!!! of sometimes extremly dangerous war-relics
until he gets to the antique and interesting stuff. And some countries like
Ex-Yugoslavia are still full of land-mines, and not only just at a few spots.

Not to mention about wildpigs, wolves, bears, dogs and other hungry animals roaming
around some woods in south-eastern Europe! Especially Romania is full of them.
So good luck and don't get eaten.

I had planned to expand White's parts sales to include more items for experimenters, such as coil shells, lock rings, cases, cables, etc. Haven't had a chance to pursue this yet. Also, I agree we need to do a better job in the Euro market.

Carl, that would be phenomenal for us hobbyists!

As a prime example, trying to find those darn shaft cam-locks has been driving me nuts! They don't seem to be available anywhere. I'm sure if Whites offered them, I would buy, so long as they weren't outrageously overpriced.

You have good point there! Yes could be major issue. Dont dare to say about other countries, but in Serbia laws are undefined yet reffering prospecting. But aint no law here to prohibit device - metal detector to have. Man can buy legally, can have and can hold with. No problem. Also can advertise in public and can sell just as any other ordinary electronic device. Also law prohibits only prospecting at protected locations such as arch. sites and private sites without owner supervising or permit.
So...situation in Serbia is not defined yet , but there are no problems to advertise and sell such products at all.
We (locals) are looking forward for new laws and legalisation of our status.
Sooner or later that time will come. Best example we can reffer on is situation in GB. About other surrounding countries...i really dont know.

White's has name and tradition. Most famous and favorite brand to most of prospectors i know.Not to mention high quality and field success. So...sudden appearance of many "independent" manufacturers latelly, esspecially from Asia does not mean a thing. No competition at all.
White's would be and stay "White's" in our minds forever. Every a bit experienced prospector will give of any cheap and "indpendent" product and sooner or later end up with some of major brands in hands. So... there is pretty secure market for quality devices. No fears that it would be a mismatch to start something more seriously here.Looking forward to see that day....

A major problem in several European countries is the prohibition for using metal detectors.
How does this apply to Eastern European countries?
Could you post the rules of some countries?

It would be difficult to start a metal detector factory in a country where it is illegal to go metal detecting.
