  • 10-year Celebration

On March 24, 1999 I posted a Welcome message and kicked off these forums. It seems like it was just... 10 years ago.

I would like to have a little celebration, by having a drawing for one or more prizes. For a grand prize I'm thinking of a new White's TDI pulse detector, or maybe an equivalent VLF model. I'm trying to decide what would make a good 2nd & 3rd prize.

I'm also trying to decide how to do the drawing itself. I would like it to be based on postings, so the most active participants will have the best chance. But that raises the possibility that some people will jump in with a lot of junk posts.

So over the next couple of weeks, I would like everyone's help in figuring out the best way to run the contest. It needs to be a way in which I don't influence the outcome. I will kick it off on the 24th and let it run for... how long?

    Hi Carl,
I´m sorry but i don´t quite understand the concept :will it be a drawing contest ? So you submit drawing(s) related to Geothech or metal detecting ?
I think a contest is a cool idea and may give some "punch" to the forum.
    regards,
    Fred.

Ha,ha,ha!! Not "drawing" like drawing a picture or sketch....but drawing like "pulling" out of hat. Understand? Have you ever saw Loto drawing? Or Super 5 or simillar..

Good idea Carl...although not fair you alone to pay all and spend such money.
I dont think first prize, you mentioned, is cheap. Good acknowledgment (prize) would be some exclusive project in this md subject. Something which will go only to winner on mail and in electronic form. Or some digital archieve, collection of several original manufacturing documents, projects etc. Something unique, never posted anywhere so far. Or simillar.
BTW congratulation on 10 years anniversary!!
I wish you 50 years anniversary also. Hopefully we will discuss some 50 meters depth's devices than! Or prospecting via Google Earth or simillar.
Very Best Wishes for first 10 years!

Ha Mr Coniç, i understand now! thanks for explanation !
(I suppose a drawing in relation to the Birthday would have been fun )

To avoid the junk mail problem maybe averaging over time could resolve this.

Carl congratulation for running the forum for that long.I particularly apreciate the freedom here.

        regards,
        Fred.

          10-year Celebration

I would like to see a contest that Finishes "unfinished business" like a contest to Finish the "Relic Hawk" or a "Proton Magnetometer" that really Works !! Or just have a lottery or Raffle Tickets . Also the prizes do not have to be so expensive , offer More Mid-priced Detectors "the more the Merrier" [meaning more chances to win] !!! I first logged on one month after 9/11/2001 . It has been a great Forum over the years and again , I am just giving my opinion !!

          Best Regards to everyone !!!.......................Eugene52

Congratulations on the up-coming 10 year anniversary of Geotech!
The simplest no-brainer would be to just put all members' names in a hat, and draw out the winners. However, there is an obvious problem with this simplistic approach. i.e. a large proportion of members are not active, and may not even be contactable. In that case it would be preferable to only include actively participating members with a post count above a set figure.

If Whites are supplying the detectors, perhaps the head man at Whites should do the actual draw.

I'm not sure whether a physical "hat" would be a practical proposition, given the size of the members list. Maybe an electronic "hat" could be devised.

Congratulations Carl and many thanks to you to allow to people like me be part of this EXCELENT forum.
Here i have the oportunity to meet some nice people and friends and learning a lot of metal detecting tech.
About the way we can celebrate this i propose a CD´s compendium of most important files located in your web site. I know we can collect by our self, but some times is dificult to find some specific ones. An indexed CD´s with pictures, will form a nice encyclopidia.
                This is just my opinion
                Happy Birthday Geotech

                  Congratulations Carl, long live Geotech.
One solution for drawing out the winners would be letting the members vote for the winners. My vote goes to ivconic, Max and bbsailor.
                  Best regards,

                          Hi,
first of all... I'd like to express my congratulations to Carl for this fantastic forum I read over the years with so much fun.

So happy birthday at Geotech and best wishes to all members here.

Then I have to say that the competition idea seems interesting (though I have not much time at now to read all posts etc) and sure appropriate to the challenges we have in the past... like some ops reverse engineering here!

Now... I hope we'll enjoy that forums for many and many years in future and also more and more projects discussed here will hit the searchfields all over the world, find beautiful stuff and give much happiness to the people here.

                          Kind regards,
                          Max
