When you turn yours on do you get a beep then a thresh hold? And when you scan a target what tones do you get?

No don't open yours. If i can't sort it out I will see what Garret gets to fix it. I shot them an e-mail. I guess they still work on these things. I was just hoping as simple as it is that I could nail it myself and save a few bucks. I wish I had learned more about electronics as a kid.

Ok I am not the sharpest when it comes to this I am learning allot. However I have tesed around and I cant seem to find any AC voltage on the audio side. I can get DC everywhere. I can't get any sound but the pop in the circuit. I have found that several of the diodes go up and down by about three volts when waving a target over the coil but the voltage on the audio output to speaker headphones only reads .03 to .08 when waving the target over coil.
Sorry I don't know more here.

I will try I will be a bit I will make a chopped head phone to test it.

Starting at the Audio Pot, Volume check the ac voltage from the center pole on the Pot to Ground.

A chopped up head phone would work for this.

Does it sound the same?

Meter is responding perfect and the detector has good depth as well. It is just the audio that has the problem. No threshhold hum and weird chirp and thump on targets.

I also tried unplugging the main speaker and running just the headphones but still got the same results. So I think it is in one of the components on the board.

No the headphones do not work either. It makes the same sound in the headphones as it does out the speaker. I have the basics for tools. I have a nice digital volt ohm meter. Nice soldering equipment.

Cool looks like the first long box ADS after the Ground hog .

Let me see if I can find a schematic that would be close.

Garrett was tight lipped on schematics but there are a few out there that could be close enough to work with.

What do you have for test equipment?

Test Audio Amp would be good.

This could be as simple as a bad speaker.

They had the speaker on top and if it got wet, it could do what you state.

Do the head phones work?
