Today I had some work with the old Jeohunter accus, too.

It uses 3 ultra-bright LEDs via a 22ohm resistor, in total this lamp has 4000mAh @ 3.7v and I guess it will shine for 100-300 hours!

Hi gart,

seems there's a very strong soil mineralisiation where you wanna search.

If you have some dozens of high mineralized bricks you can do this test at home otherwise you have to bury a metal object at some depth and test the ground balance in the "field".

The more mineralisation the more a minus value the Jeohunters ground balance needs for compensation of the EM effects the soil creates.


The 100% balance is just an indicator for the actual best fitting adjustment. But this can change very fast if the ground changes, the higher the mineralisation is, the more sensitivity is used and the more the coil has different distances from the ground while searching. In reality the input of the ground balance value presets the detectors "0 point" inbetween whole range from extremly mineralisation to best detectable metal (=silver cache) or in other words the point from where the phase-shift shall start.

Sorry gart if this was to technical but all what you have to do in the beginning is to enter a negative ground balance value (as example minus 80%) and search at 70% sensitivity on high mineralised ground.

Later with more experience you can get the most sensitivity out of the detector by testing at which ground balance value the Jeohunter remains silent after reset for the largest lifting the coil distance.

At high mineralised sites while ground balancing you should lift the coil to a distance of 10-15 cm above the ground, press the RESEST button and now test how much you can lift and lower the coil until you get a signal (always for ground balancing use a place where shurely no metal is buried). The more distance you can lift the coil up or down the better is the inputed ground balance value. If you found this best value press ACCEPT.

If you like tell me what you wanna find and at what kind of ground so I can give you more precise instructions.

For the beginning take it easy and slowly, search at lower sensitivity and make some buried objects tests first. Good luck!

Mr FUNFINDER thanks for your answer but correct me if i misunderstud your subgestions
1 set the ground balance at zero value no matter the percentage of the ground balance reached , go to setup before any ground balance adjust and set sensitivity in 60 or 70 .

2. for exanple bury something at 70 cms deep , start by setting difernet ground balance values no matter if you reach a 100 percent of the balance and check if the device detects the object then increase the sensitivity level.

i apologize if i did not understand well but this is it about , for me is important to achive the necesary information to make the device usefull for my propouse.

I'm glad you found the right place for professional information.

The depth-analysis is real good (plus minus 5cm depth deviation) because of the different shapes and sizes of the objects.

You will need to have some experience to find the correct value:
Is it a short beep like when you find a coin or is it a somehow longer signal if you move over the find?

Most of the time you can enter 10cm x 10cm and leave it be for a quick overview scan how deep is the metal.

If the oscilloscope curve at the Jeohunters main screen is very low while the target gives a signal of 10x10cm it will be deep or it is a coin or something that is closer and smaller.

The procedure shown in the video uses the size of the metal object that is measured if you move the coils edge near the find.

It's the approximate distance when the signal between the coils edges starts you have to input.

After some experience you can simply use 10cm x 10cm for smaller signals and higher values only if the signal is "huge".
I use the depth detection very seldom because mostly I've got out the object already within the same time.

As far as I know there exists no china made plagiarism of the Joehunter but a look alike clone in some arabic countries with clearly different name.

This is very good you got the Jeohunter 3D with 3coils - especially for very deep treasure detection. If you are new to treasure-hunting don't worry, first you will need some experience.

If you have problems with the ground balance set it to value zero and set the sensitivity to 60 or 70%. Now you can bury something and test different ground balance values. After some time raise the sensitivity to 80% and next 90% and try again.

Mr funfinder it is good to be here in this forum just because i purchae a jehunter 3d dual system wtiht all 3 coils , im testing my device and i think im having problems becuause of the ground banlace , i do everything as the instructions in the video to obtain the right balance and aparently the devaice gets the ground balance in a hundred percent but unfortunelly when i do the field test the device can not even detect a sold iron piece at 20 centimeters so i dont know what else to do the device only detects pieces superficially , i thank you if you could help me wiht some thanks a lot.

also sir some treasure hunter in my area criticize the MD coz of the wrong spelling in the black bag maybe they give me a china made product coz of the low quality of the bag and the headset .. and wrong spelling letters outside the bag .. pls can i get the picture of your unit bag and the metal detector..

sir funfinder i just bought a Joehunter 3d my i was very glad that someone can tell me about the metal detector coz some geoengr. here says that the joehunter is an invention to scam people.. when im reading this furom i was very glad . hehehe . sir this is my problem i cant make the right depth of metal sorry for my English not really fluent in this. when i follow the video tutorial how to find the right depth im very confuse i cant really get the right cm or meter of the metal .. will i set my scan to 60x60cm or the lowest of 10x10cm or i will manually get the size of the every end of the detect metal by measuring the diameter to get the right depth?? sorry again in my english. here is the link of the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2m6M...eature=related sir can you tell me how the hell that he get that 50 x 30 cm?? did he measure it manually by using tape measure ?? im very naive in every point of the tutorial pls educate me . im a noob in hunting also ..

I cannot predict the whole situation with the granite because this depends on mineralisation level of granite compared with the soil conditions at those site.

The Jeohunter will penetrate the granite, this is no problem.

But if the granites mineralisation compensates the missing one of the barrels this could blur the contrast factor.


You can test the difference:
First bury the 10l bucket and cover it with soil only and test detection.

Second remove the covering material, place a granite slab over the bucket and fill the rest of the hole with usual soil.


If you are lucky the granite will have almost the same mineralisation level as the soil - in that case you will get 2 times the same test results.

If the granite has lower mineraliisation as the surrounding soil the detection would be even easier for you.

But if the granite compensates the ambient ground, it could make the barrels undetectable like a stealth-shield.

You will see this when you bury the bucket and make tests - I hope you can use the same kind of granite.

Of course this is the simple test, as a professional test you would have to bury everything as identical as possible like it's in real.


I'm glad the size of the site is only 50x35 meters. You can create 15 parts of 10x10m by markings.


Don't worry, you will get furthermore support if you are in need.

I'm confident you will find the barrels, because 100 liters of different mineralisation volume is a huge value at a depth of just 3 ft. The Jeohunter already found graves at over 6 fts. which have had a litte bit more of space.

It may take some patience for getting enough detection experience by tests and trials but the more experience, the better detection results you will receive.

The supplier exchane the electronic box (main Unit) he give another. it is good and ground balence very fast. Now it is Ok. i have another dought, one land 20X20 Meters on the land they laydown granite slabs full covered. granite thikness is around 6 to 10 inches. on that site jeohunter will work? signal penatrate in to the subsurface? at that condition what is approxmate depth the jeohunter will work. next the plastic drum site size is 50x35 meter. on that site they put granite slab on the drum and on the granite thye put soil. so it is also same condition. two days after i am going there.

btw. it should be possible to load the accu-pack with the
2 wires at 4000mA @ 14.8v - but it would take ca. 1,5h
to get them completly full.

Some Lithium-Ion accus also need a longer time for charging:
The original Jeohunter accu-pack needs around 6-7hours
with the loader I have (I guess the new one is faster).

You may try to load the accupack with the 2 wires at 14.8 v
but only with 2000mA automatically within ca. 3 hours.

geo-i, if your fully loaded accu-pack only lasts for 2-3 hours
at the Jeohunter perhaps one or two of those cells are bad.

This was very good idea you have!



I would bury a 10liter plastic bucket first directly at your treasure hunting site.

This is not much work and you can get alot experience and the best ground balance!!

Dig an 1.5 to 2 ft. deep hole and place the bucket upside down. If you like you can fill it before with old newspapers.

Close the hole and stamp the soil compact.

Next try to find the bucket by the Jeohunter. You can test at what ground balance value and sensitivity you will get the strongest signal and if you get cavity or metal signal.

Yes, you also could get a "positive" signal (normally used for metal)!

Because the soil around the bucket has an effective higher mineralisation value than over the bucket. This depends if the ground balance is higher or lower than the "objects value" you are searching for or at and the internal detection algorithms of the Jeohunter.


But don't worry.

If you have good experience and found out the best ground balance plus sensitivity value to detect the bucket with biggest possible signal strenght you are ready for the huge barrels!

If the soil is not very strong mineralized (quartz sand as example) you have to use very high sensitivity and moving the coil very close over the ground.

If you have been successful with the 1,5-2ft. bucket test and got very good detection signals and enough experience you may try to bury it at 2-3 ft. This way you can get at the very borders of detection capability. Try to use the medium standard coil and also the 1m so you can find out which coil is better in such a special case.


And as a somehow reference-test look for a metal plate or pan with the same diameter the bucket / barrel bottom has and find out from what distance you can detect it in air. You will get here more "depth" because of the much higher "contrast factor" between electromagnetic-powerful metal and air compared with the cavity but this is only for getting yet more experience.


Do you know the approximate sites dimensions in meters?

If the search site is huge try to learn the "dervish style" whirlwind search method. It's not that easy in the beginning but if you are used to it it's fantastic and unimaginable high-speed search sessions became reality.

This was just an additional good tip, but now I wish you good success with the buried bucket tests.

To day i came to Hyderabad. along with my jeohunter here we test and balance the jeohunter first. when it balance it is OK. i have total 3 coils. with 3D jeohunter. i go to my place and again do the ground balance. then i start my work. seller of my new jeohunter is in Hyderabad. so he ask to come here. that's way i came . OK. for your guidance. can i dig one hole and put one barrel and do the test. after i check original place? how it is?

First please tell us if your Jeohunter now is working.

Do you know how large is the site in meters (x,y)?
And the diameter of the upper side of the barrels?

3 barrells will raise your chance to find them and the
new depth of only 3feet below the surface makes it shure those
are detectable!!! Now this is very easy... if you find the right spots.

You are very lucky !!!

This has to do with the mineralic ground around the barrels.

The mineralic stuff and the salts in the ground have a strong influence to the Jeohunters detection balance adjustment you can achieve by correct ground balance and the reset button.

The strenght and detection patterns of the EMwaves will change if solid mineralized ground ends and the coil is above a large barrel with air, gas or paper, doesn't matter as long it's not the same mineralized as the soil around. Even if the barrells are 3ft below a volume of 100 liters will create a big change of the coils EM-field, which has a effective radius of 5-10 meters.

You can compare this with the Multi-Sensors you can get in Do-it-yourself-Homeworker-Markets - also called stud-finders.

If they're set to brickstone you can detect wood or metal inside the wall because this materials create different EM-field strenghts.

Of course the Jeohunter is much more powerful.
btw. how many coils do you have?
You also can find the barrels very good with the 1m coil!
