    LiPo charging

    Hi geo-i,

    without matching li-ion loader it's a bit dangerous -
you should need experience with this kind of stuff.

It is possible to load LiPo (Li-Ion) cells with a stabilized
laboratory net-adapter but I would not recommend the
    adapter you have.

You can try but it is really your own risk:

    Very important:

Do this at a place with concrete ground or other not inflamable stuff!
    Garage room, outside etc.

How it works - listen very carefully:

Each 3.7v liion cell needs 4.2volt of charging power.

Your AC adapter can provide this - so it is possible.
but you have to do this manually and with a stop-watch-timer.

Connecting 4 cells in series = 16,8v of charging power.

Now important is the current (Ampere per Hour) you push into
those cells. Usually such cells have to be loaded at 1C.

If the cell has 2000mAh = 2Ampere per hour you can push
    a current of 2amps ( = 2000milli Amps) into those cells -
BUT ONLY FOR ONE HOUR !!!!
After this you have to disconnect your adapter immediatly.

Because you dont have a stabilized laboratory adapter
which limits the current if the cell reaches the internal loading
    current limit.

Your Cliptec loader provides 4.5Ah. This works but as a secondary
precaution you have to load all 8 cells at the same time.

You have to use the 8 UltraFire cells because the green Jeohunter
cells are damaged. First every cell must have the same state of charge
    (empty or half empty)

Connect your 8 UltraFire's in this way:

    __-- -[- 3.7liion +]-[- 3.7liion +]-[- 3.7liion +]-[- 3.7liion +]-+__
    ....-- -[- 3.7liion +]-[- 3.7liion +]-[- 3.7liion +]-[- 3.7liion +]-+

Set the CLiPtec to 16V or as a precaution to 15V
Switch the power of the CLiPtec to ON.

Connect the charging wires of the CLiPtec with the battery-pack.

    IMPORTANT:
    POLARITY!!!!

Connect plus with plus and minus with minus/ground/mass.

You really have to know exactly which one's the plus pole of the CLiPtec
    loading wires or connector!!!!

    IMPORTANT:
    TIMING!!!!

Those UltraFires have 3000mA so theoretically you can load
them with your Cliptec for ca. 1hour plus 20minutes.
But ONLY if those are empty!!!!

    BEST IDEA:
At the first time load those UltraFires only for 30minutes.

After this connect the battery pack with the Jeohunter.
Switch it on and leave it to on until the battery empty alert!
NEVER miss this alert or your battery-pack will deep-deplete!!!

NOW you are shure the battery-pack has reached it's low level and
you can load it - for 1 hour only!!!!!

If you forgot the battery pack and it loads and loads
after at least 2-3 hours the batteries will blow!!!
So REALLLY DONT FORGET to cut off the charging wires of
    the CLiPtec after 1 HOUR!

We don't want that you blow yourself!!!!

Now if you connect this "almost fully" loaded accu-pack
with the Jeohunter at the beginning screen you will see
how fully those are charged - perhaps you will read 80%.

    BE CAREFUL!!!!

ALWAYS check out first with the Jeohunter how full the
battery pack is loaded!!!! If the battery pack is at 80%
DONT load it 1 hour because this would overload it !!!

After a while you may get routine and be used
but still be VERY Careful! And every 5minutes
check out by hand if the temperature of the cells is normal!
Only a slightly amount of warm is OK - if one of the
cells is going HOT disconnect the loader immediatly.

    Technical data:
    ClipTec 4,5A loading current @ 15 (for safety) to16 (= better) Volts

Akku pack 2 x four 3.7v li-ion UltraFire cells 3000 mAh (in series)
= 14.8 volts power pack with 6000mA current storage

= loading at ca. 1,2C for max. 1h20min

Good luck and don't make any mistakes!!!

Please show us pictures how you have connected the
8 UltraFire cells and a picture of the CLiPtec connector.

    Hi geo-i,

    > 12-03-2011 i have been keeping the machine for last 8 mounth
,now i need to use it again but the battery does not charging.
does it because of the adapter does not working .

Now you wanna repair your battery pack - no problem.

Forget about the lead-acid pack, the voltage is to low etc.

You can use the Ultra Fire but you have to connect them correctly!

Connect the cells as you can see at the following schematic:

    __-- -[- 3.7liion +]-[- 3.7liion +]-[- 3.7liion +]-[- 3.7liion +]-+__
    ....-- -[- 3.7liion +]-[- 3.7liion +]-[- 3.7liion +]-[- 3.7liion +]-+

Use the original Jeohunter battery pack plug - the center pin
is the plus 14.8 Volts, the "ring" around is minus/ground.

I recommend first make a test session:
for testing if the battery loader works connect only 4 accu-cells in series.

Here you can see the opened Jeohunter accu-pack:
General tech discussions on all types of metal detectors: VLF, 2-box, BFO, off-resonance, PLL, etc. Questions, ideas, and anything else that moves you.

and this is the "repaired" one:
General tech discussions on all types of metal detectors: VLF, 2-box, BFO, off-resonance, PLL, etc. Questions, ideas, and anything else that moves you.

but this is just for additional information, geo-i.

Better using a new plastic box for the lithium-ion cells.

But you may need the original battery-pack connector.
You can cut of the plastic carefully to get this connector.

You will need exactly 8 lithium-ion cells of the same type.
All of them first need to have the same charching-state -
either noncharged or all of them single-precharged.
Do you have 8 cells already?

If you charge them with the Jeohunter-loader they
have to be already connected 4 in series - the Jeohunter
    loader cannot charge single cells.

    It's not too complicated:
    - make shure you connect the correct polarity
    - create 2 series connection รก 4 cells
    - connect both plus poles of those 2 packs with the inner
pin of the jeohunter accu pack plug and both minus with the ring
    - use a voltmeter or a little led-lamp to control everything is connected ok

Good luck and don't shortcut these cells - they could explode if you do so!
However you should be able to built this new battery-pack, it's really simple.

    I would not recommend it.

The blue battery has 3.7 volts (x 3 = 11.1 volts, x4 = 14.8 volts, wrong voltages) and is physically very small.

The other battery is lead acid (12 volts) and physically much larger and therefore has the bigger capacity.......

You may or may not blow up the electronics with the Lithium batteries......

You may want to consider a battery pack of 10 x NIMH batteries (12 volts), either in AA or those funny sizes that you find in portable drill battery packs, the so called Sub-C batteries. A bit more capacity and weight than AA's......but chargeable in most NICAD/NIMH chargers still.......

Even buying a cheap drill may give you two sets......its a thought, more capacity, but also higher weight...

Voltage is important, but also capacity.....

    Regards

    Andy

I'm really happy that you made it and that the Jeohunter's
hitec circuits are that great so they haven't got the slightest
    damage! Perfect.

I hope you have fully closed the connector finally or
you also can use some tougher tape instead of this.

So now, after you geo-i have proofen to be a very good electronic
engineer and repairer, I am shure you will find also huge treasures!!!

Good luck my friend, take care, thank you for the report and my best

Forget about that arrogant and offending fool, he won't write
again because he's to busy finding tanks with his PI frame.
He couldn't give you any really useful information anyway.

    @ geo-i
Thank you very much for invinting me to some lunch, you're
welcome but normally I have to invite you 'cause I should
have opened the connector much earlier so you would have
    had less trouble.

However - I really hope the Jeohunter's electronic circuit
was powerful enough to survive the whole mess so please
tell us if the coil now is good working again and let us see
a picture of your own new coil-holder-modification! Thx!

    OK, geo-i,
now I have opened my own coil connector because of you
for a second time and indeed I found the culprit.
There was some confusion with the 1m coil wiring.

However, below now the connection of my 45cm Jeo coil:

The inner white wire of the grey cable has to be connected
to A and the coax-shielding wire inside of the grey cable to B.

The connection of the single white wire with C fits
and also the little wire connection from B to D is O.K.

But there's a problem - because my cable has 3 different
single white wires and just one of them is connected.

When I opened the connector the first time I marked all
those wires so I had no problems at all but in your case you
have to check out now which single white wire is the right one:

But this is very simple - here the complete procedure:

    First:
connect (bridge) PIN B with D (you can find the little
PIN letters A-E near the soldering pins.)

    Second:
    solder the grey cable -
the white wire to A and the shielding wire to B
    and isolate those contacts

    Third:
Solder the single white wires to C (just 1 at the same
time) until you have found the correct working one by
connecting the coil to the Jeohunter and switch it on.

Always be careful and mark wires if you cut them so
afterwards you know where they have been exactly.

I wish you good luck that everything will
work fine again and please tell us the results.
