For the umpteenth time, there is a difference between waving a coil over well blended ground at some test site and over typical variable gold field ground!!!

I had a coil that was made from a old crystal radio antenna that was better than the spider "would" coil you used. It detected gold down to 4 meters deep. Prove me wrong.

However do agree with me that coil losses caused by : distributed-capacitance losses,skin effect,proximity effect,eddy-current losses in neighboring objects can be reduced by using spider wound coils? ie do you believe that higher Q coils in metal detectors are desirable? If not could you be so kind as to explain why.

Why would i pay someone who clearly does NOT know the answers to my questions? Now prove me wrong!l Many folk here i am sure would be interested in your thoughts on the relevance or otherwise of coil Q and Pi detectors and the pro's and cons of spider vs bundle wound coils.

Typical response from someone who claims his only association with a certain company is that he gets their newsletter and who has posted lies about me on other US forums!!!! Its the typical response from someone who represents i believe a vested interest and will do all in his bird power to preserve the detector market status quo! But the fact remains that the spider wound mono performed better than any commercial coil in the field over typical gold field ground and that is all that matters!!! What a poor show it is when you have to cover for people like Patches Junior!

Why the antagonism to Moodz? As Carl would say he is not hurting anybody or any company and what he is doing will stand or fall on its merits which will be decided not by Moodz but by the users and ultimately the market!None of you have his circuits or have any idea of his signal processing methods or the results of any field trials! All you have is what Moodz has posted! So any negative comments in my view have little or no technical merit or validity and are purely speculative or are more likely an attempt by those with a vested interest in maintaining the status quo and are directed to trying to damage his reputation or discredit him either directly or by association!

facts are if you bundle wind or basket weave a 45 cm coil which is what I made and stick it in a pizza box none of you will be able to tell the difference on depth or sensitivity.

If you are comparing your coil in a Pizza box with a Pizza Hut Meat Lovers Special also in a Pizza box, I can believe you will not be able to tell the difference on depth or sensitivity. I don't think your mate DougAEGPoof will be able to tell the difference either!

Ok, but I haven't read the real significant reason, why the Moodz coil (the spider wound coil shown), when shielded would outperform a ML coil. All I get is an indirect indication of the fact.


Forget the known facts like proximity effect, skin effect, lower capacitance, coil resistance..

Coils are already far too expensive!Spider wound or basket weave coils would be vastly more expensive for the reasons you describe.
