Instead of a bigfoot I'm told making a double D in the same format is the way to go.

Did you find plans for a particular one? I would be interested in collaborating with someone who knows more about coils, I'm just starting to learn.

        with someone who knows more
        ------
again we back to ITMD. people have to start from some basic knowledge. George and Carl had released the book for good reading.
just start to learn. sorry for my russky.

I am trying to learn, that is why I am asking questions. :-)

I found this forum from other links, and have not heard of "ITMD" before.

I have now found out that there is a book and will start down that path. I was hoping to find someone that is working on this, that is willing to share their knowledge as well.

I ended up buying a used (DD) one just a few weeks ago. Haven’t tried it yet.

A DD is certainly easier to build but the Figure-8 has advantages, like 1st-order cancellation of ground and EMI, and probably a little better depth.

Forming a coil in this manner is not that difficult. What would be difficult is balancing it.
matter of fact is fairly simple using a paper dart board you can form one coil on top of the other. What would make it complicated is me beacuse i always over complicate things.
What I would do if Im seeing that coil correct is take your calculated wire, spool it to the center onto another spool and start with the rectangular coil wraping from the center of the wire successively alternating spools per wrap. wrap desired wraps set up tooth picks for figure eight coil stack. And if this is not actually the way the coil is wrapped the coils could still be seperated if you did it right. maybe a layer of paper between them tell testing is completed.
Here is the dart board with a form set up.

Thank you so much! I have found some pictures, but never the diagram.

Do you have any info on resisters/capacitors and inductors that they used?

I have so much to learn with these. With work being busy, I haven't even been able to get through the first chapter of the book yet. :-(

                        that they used?
                        ---
they? there was just one man who did those coils. he dead. his archive was list on ebay by parts and dissapeared out (geotech1ers are poor to buy such things) .
so the mistery "how-to-do BF" had gone together with this man. sorry, i do not know his name, i am not in USA.

                          Per Carl,
JIM karbowski his notes on metal detecting forums.
                          http://metaldetectingforum.com/showthread.php?t=268000

Have not had a chance to read this blog yet so not sure what all is there.
Hope someone can put it all together the electronics parts. I can come up with a good way to manufacture the coil for us at that point.

also looks like the coil progressed ito a verticle dod tye arrangement. In the pictures Im not seeing the *8* pattern, my guess is same benefit easier to balance though.
                            What do you guys think?

certainly '8' splitted in two coils. but connected they in 8 pattern. so here all ok. also there are balanced turns, in both parts.

Jim Karbowski has to present whole his archive to Geotech1 but some people guess they are eternal.
