does anybody know what chip is used inside the deus' remote control box (probably also some sort of PIC) ? Maybe somebody has opened it and took a picture of the PCB?
i got a cheap broken 22cm deus coil from ebay.fr
i suppose that one of the coils is damaged (broken epoxi)
so i will be the ideal candidate for Henriks Mod, i hope to make a small coil for it around 15cm and one bigger with 30cm

I still haven't properly dissected Henrik's old coil, to see what it's secrets are, I'm too busy. But I think we may have made a mistake when trying to work out the drain wire location. I think there is less of it, the graphite alone is the main conductor in the shield.
I still got and use my small XP Deus coils.. (Not much, but in Very infested areas still a little use)
Since 2014 when these small coil was built, I made many other test with masking and my conclusion is... Iron and infested areas are not easy to deal with. Its more like a nightmare.
If any had ask me two years ago, I had Sayed yeah build a small coil, but today I would say.. Use what you got and DIG a lot iron, at those fields with chance of Very good finds... (Hot spot).
You will get a few more % finds with a small coil, but not much... The iron is masking much more that mustly Think.. A medium size coil like 9" or similar size eliptical coil, will do the job, If you do like many recommend, dig iron and a lot iron. That will give you succes.
It's interesting that you say that, Henrik. Maybe XP tried the same experiment, and came to a similar conclusion, which is why they never manufactured such a coil?
As a Fisher F75 user, I thoroughly recommend the round-profile 5 inch DD coil. Used with sensitivity set high, it still achieves depths 70 - 75% of the stock 11" x 7" coil, but is definitely capable of picking out stuff in iron that the larger coil just gets overwhelmed by.
I also like it for it's mechanical advantages - crop stubble fields, awkward tight spots, like bushes, hedges.
Agree. Small coils are underestimated with no real reason.
Once I have Whites M6 detector equipped with 9.5" stock coil.
Then I buy 6" Excellerator intended for special occasions - as I am thinking.
Expecting 6" coil should be about 40% shallower than 9.5" coil
After repeating thorough tests on my testing plant, it came out, that those 6" coil is only 2cm shallower (at 30mm silver coin) than 9.5" coil (19cm in comparison to 21cm of depth).
Of course I abandoned 9.5" coil from my regular use and enjoy couple years in "lite" hunting with 6" coil.
9.5" then become coil for very rare special occasions.
We need to remember that Henrik's PCB was from a large Deus coil, and he used it unmodified with his small coil. It could be that modifying the pre-amp gain ( I think it may need increasing, perhaps double the gain, initially) would help the small coil.
On the subject of 5 inch Fisher coils:
Until recently, this small coil for the F75 and the Teknetics T2 and several other First Texas machines was a vacuum-formed case, and has been around since the 1990's. They have recently changed to a proper injection moulded case. But there are many old Fisher coils out there, and if the price is right, they may be useful to home-builders. The case is a two-part design, upper and lower. The lower is 'dish' shaped, and fits over the upper, with a glue bond. I think it may be possible to seperate the two, so it can be re-used. Or a new lower case may be made, from ABS sheet.
You right Skippy, the PCB was from a large coil, and I didn't dare to try some preamp modifireing..
But I would say that the round coil I made is working pretty good, but there is something negative about the Deus, I found out in my lastest test (masking test).. That is the Deus is Very sensitive close to the outer diameter of the coil (what is the right word, those Inductance close to the Windings) So no matter how fast you adjust your Deus, Iron close to the coil, will mask out goodies.
I did a test Deus vs my Makro Racer and the Racer won.. First some time after the test, I found out the reason..
And It didn't help with different coil size, factory og Home made. Same ****.
Im sure that this problem is seen or knowed, not only by Deus owners, but every one working with Detector like you, and many others.

DD coils do have their peculiarities (but even concentrics can lie). But....don't fall for that Garrett illustration, it's just marketing nonsence, DD coils DO NOT have this 'razor sharp beam' detection pattern.
Certainly digging iron is one solution. Digging weak iron is another. Weak iron is more likely to be non-iron than something that indicates as a definite iron signal. And if your search area has lots of tiny/small iron, it may be worth digging the larger iron signals, they may be non-iron.

The articel by danskowski was new to me. Very Very Interesting and many "aha" and thats why.
I had my self a similar exsperience with the Viking silver coin hoard I found. First 3 coins came up (Shallow) and then it stop..no more signals only a lot of Iron. Then I startede to dig iron in the central area and no 4 coin came up.
I knew that there had to be more deeper down (or masked) but I couldn't find them, and I tryed 2-3 detectors and small coils. No succes. Only chance to find more was the hard way, taking dirt of cm by cm and dig ALL signals.
The 3 pictures showing a area I worked with. It was hard working but Big succes, "one" more coin came up.
It could had been masked or to deep, I dont know.
The end of story after the museum came in, and the hoard (spread one) was up some months later, it ended with 42 Coins.
This exsperience the summer 2015 was really a eye opener, to the subject IRON (or trash) is masking.
Okay masking depends the coin size or other finds, compaired to the iron close og just near. In my case those coins only was 20 mm and had the weight of 1 gram silver. That not much and properly the reason it was difficult.
