It may the only difference is the power supply as Ivconic suggested. I'll do some digging into it once it arrives, and we'll figure it out.

oh mamma mia! we again stand up the matter(( THIS IS ONE COMPANY, ONE TOWN, ONE REGION. the pic of Ivconic autorized.

TM-808 is the part of White's detector 5900 DI PRO SL, 6000 DI PRO SL, TF900 is a copy of TM-800. take attention i write sometimes name with the dash,
and without the dash. you have to write RIGHT, SORRY AMIGO , too.

KT....the TM-808 is different, but the TM-808's with Cave mode are not.....different beasts with identical name. I think at the end of the TM-800 production run, some were labeled as TM-808, but only a few. Not many TM-808's had cave mode.

JII, cave mode significantly decreases the depth. you never will work in this mode. that is why Whites deleted this mode in following/late detectors.

Naaahhh...they deleted it because they got sued by Discovery and lost.

                  History:
The original design was created by Jim Karbowski of Bigfoot coil fame. He produced them under his own company name, 3D Electronics. At some point, White's produced the TM600 (I have a blue one without coils) but I don't know who actually manufactured it: 3D, or White's, or Discovery. Also at some point, Discovery licensed or bought the design and made the TF900. It is my understanding that Discovery also made the TM800 for White's, which replaced the TM600. Then White's decided to bring production in-house, and called it the TM808, but it was a copy of the TM800 which, by now, Discovery owned. Discovery complained, and White's redesigned the TM808 around the 6000 circuit, which did not not have a TR mode so Cave Mode disappeared. Discovery also made the CS9000 for C-Scope.

Cave mode is just a static TR mode and is very useful when you need static readings, as is the case when using the Arc-Geo Logger. I doubt the Arc-Geo Logger will even work with a newer TM808 without Cave mode.

That's really interesting, Carl, and I appreciate the clarification. One thing I noticed about Cave mode in my TM-808 is it discriminates ferrous metals. I ran some grids with the logger up in the mountains yesterday. Just as a test I ran the detector over my Estwing geology pick, and got a strong signal. But, in Cave mode, it could barely be heard. So I run my field prospecting scans, with the logger, in each mode. The idea being the all-metal mode will show all the conductive zones in the grid, and the Cave mode will toss the ones that are iron, and may show some non-ferrous zones that all metal didn't pick up. I'm really enjoying my Arc-Geo logger, and Tim Williams has been a big help, with nothing to gain, as I bought my unit on the used market.

I'll get there, KT. I don't have the machines yet. I'm currently camping in the mountains, doing some prospecting and getting comfortable using the Arc-Geo Logger/ TM-800 combination.

Guys, I'm still waiting to get my hands on these units. The seller ran into some issues in his personal life, so shipping has been delayed.

Ivconic, the units are supposed to arrive tomorrow, but I'm currently swamped, so you won't get pics for awhile. We just found out that because of an ugly bit of smelly industry going in nearby, we are being "forced" to move, and that is requiring all our efforts for awhile.
