  • Tighter windings tend to be closer to the calculated inductance (and work better). I tie and firm
up mine by soaking in crazy glue before removing from the form but I now find I need to bend the
shape a bit to fit the housing and to null and they are too stiff!

    • Thanks sinclairuser.. I just gave it to much try to do a nice job.
Grey gave me and idea... I just changed it a little. The tubes are gone (so fare), and now its two pieces af hard Wood with a tunnel to the wires. Like Greys idea with the longitudedially cut, its just two pieces of Wood screwed together. And with Skippys idea to bundle with cotton thread, I made some small cuts in the Wood every 2 cm.
One turn is 40 cm. / problem is I got no Shell to this, its made out of the blue air, just hopeing that the DB shell 7" will fits fine ! If not, its not so difficult to make a new one.
Ps. I open up the 5 x 8" TX and it droped down to 9.05 mH.. So you where right Skippy, to lose wires... It wasn't the small eliptical design so much.
      "Thank you" everybody.
      Henrik.

      • It look like this. (Picture).
Just made one TX and got the 10.4 mH, but a little high resistance 29 ohm. It was with 0.255 wire. (0.31 will Be needed)

it is isn't it, i think some of the users here have not really considered the benefits of what henrikas is trying to do, one of the problems with the deus is the inability to use other coils its restricted by the stock coils available, but if he is successful that wont matter anymore.
once you have your box with the battery and circuit, you can wind/create coils at your leisure, whatever size or shape you want, actually removing the main niggle that users have with the deus.

            • Party time.... TX ready 10.4 mH and 19 ohm. (Stock coil 10.4 and 20 ohm).
              199 turns with 0.315 wire.

              • This is exciting ! Cant wait to see a working Tx/Rx combo. Adding utility to the Deus. Got to be one of the best threads on Geotech, for 2014.

                • Need some good advice or help !
1 - 1 1/2 year ago I ask how to start the Winding at the RX and the TX... Picture showing the help I got.
Now I'm on to same issue again and wondering this ! If I wind the TX and RX exsactly the same way, and the same place to take out the wires to connect, it would end up with the hot side starting from the inner at one (TX) and the hot side starting from the outer side (RX)..... What would you do ? Any exsperience what the best result / performance is - Cold side starting from the Inner Winding or the outer side ? If I couldn't get any help, I would had let the hot side Be the outer side ( the ending af the coil ) at both the RX and the TX, because of Maybee small capacity to the Sheilding, because the outer windings got much more surface..
I Maybee long over target here.. But If I'm not asking - I never learning.
Ps. The RX and the TX got same cold side (ground at the board).
                  Thanks.

                  • I personally don't think it matters with a DD coil, especially if you are going to shield them from each other. Others may have different ideas.
Good luck with the second winding.

                    • Hi Henrikras!

Regarding to the below linked german forum you should be aware that your 5000mA coil accu does not really contain that amount of energy!
So perhaps you have a possibility to test how much juice it really contains and replace it with a newer and good tested better one.
Very many of those accu-producer-****** are cheating everyone with their energy-values, already since a very long time!
The best bet is to buy this stuff from a trustworthy, really good and well known brand, only! Varta or Duracell per instance.

The google translation of the posting #3 is partially wrong:
                      "a LiFePO4 26650er has more than 3000mAh."

What was written in german correct translated must be:
                      "a LiFePO4 26650er has maximum 3000mAh."

                      • I have to admit I was surprised when I saw that first pic of the 18650 cell, with 5000 written on it. I didn't think they went much above 3300mAh, but assumed a combination of progress and 'what's available at a price' made me accept it. After all, I have some 18650 LiIon cells that are only 1350mAh, they date from 1998 approx. so progress is always happening. And they are 'Sony Energytec', (from a Sony cellphone) not rubbish-brand types.

                        • Maybe I am the only one wondering this, but: Have you connected this TX coil up to your PCB? Seeing if it oscillates at approx. the correct amplitude would be worth knowing, as it shows the Q-factor is close to original. Plus you could do fun things like overlap your TX with the factory RX and see if you can get a null.

                          • Hi all.
Thanks for all the information about the Cell... I did a test some days ago, with a 50 ma and 100 ma draw both cells and the Stock cell went down to appoxly 15% after 6 hours. The blue one had 84% at 6 hours. Then I didn't do so much more. I know that 18650 isn't 5000ma but something like 2800-3300 ma, and Thats okay to me.

News... My TX coil was 10.4 mH - but after now after a day drying up, it went down to 10.1 mH.. Once more learning by doing, it wasn't tight enough, (you sayed it Skippy, I didn't listen). But got an idea to fix again.

Just got the DB Shells.. Very nice made. Thanks Don. (See picture 1).
and how lucky can it Be ! The Shell and my coils it made like they where born together..
Pictures allso showing the I just finish second try with the RX... And now with cotton thread every 1 cm. Hope it will stay close to the 15.9 mH the goal was. This RX coil ended at 67 ohm, (70 ohm Stock coil). 230 turns with 0.18 wire. Appoxly 5-6% higher that the Calculator said.

This wooden sandwich construction to wind the coils is AWESOME to work with... Easy, fast, and Very exactly. First try with the RX - 234 turns and cotton every 2 cm gave 16.4 mH.. / then it was easy to figure out, 4 turns less.. And Bingo it hit the nail.

To morrow I have to heat up the TX (now 10.1 mH) gentle so the spray lack is getting soft, and then more cotton threads to tight it harder.. Then I'm sure it will go back to my goal 10.4 mH.

Then its time to connect and turn it on. Fingers crossed, that I dosn't need more turns to find a Null..
Ps. I made a LC test like I did with the Stock coil long time ago... And the resonans was close to the same, so I at the right track.
Ps. Its easy to finetune the enductance.... Just by changing the sharpe at the coil a little. But you who had work with this will know.
Ps. Skippy - the Shielding - please some help with that.

                            See you tomorrow.

                            Henrik.

                            • Hi Henrikras,

                              how much costs your digital-meter?
btw. meanwhile there also exists some with LCD-screen-scope on it for very good price.

                              about the coil:
the less mH the less depth and stability if e-smog or high mineralization occures.
You will not find good metal with just one wire-loop.
For such a small coil the power is good enough.

For large coils and deep finds - perhaps you wanna also experiment with the 35cm coil and create a 50cm one or something -
make shure the circuit board really offers enough current and voltage for the field-strenght or you will have massive problems
while searching at heavy mineralized ground or near all kind of electro-smog sources.

Thank you for the battery-power measurement - I guess this cell only would have around 3000mA - what an inbuilt fake-show for
all who don't know it any better! The XP company may not to blame for this but they should check beforewards good accu-types
and how long those really last.

                              @ skippy
18650 cells may have a different size as the 26650 so they can contain more or less amps.
I am not motivated now to check the internet for their sizes, its early enough when I need them.

The progress in li-po accu power is not that great as you might think.
The usual 1,2v AA NiMH-accus started with ca. 1200mA in 1995 and now 20 years later we have around 3000mA usual and ca. 2500mA ready to use ones.
(real values, not those faked describtions, those make-up or fake-up values).

Of course Li-Ion from 1998 really was at the beginning and meanwhile the "chemistry" is much better.
Special variations nowadays are loadable 1000s of times without almost no degeneration or power loss at all.

And there are also Li-Pos which works at 3,2v instead of the standard 3,7v - therefore they can have a bit more (around 15%) amount of current.

                              • Hi.
The multimeter I got is a peaktech 2010. That model is out of Stock, but this is a alternative (30 € only) link. http://www.reichelt.de/Multimeter-di...=PEAKTECH+2005
A Big coil to the Deus could Be an idea, but first this small coil project and Maybee a even smaller one later. Your fields properly different that mine, but I got Serius problems with iron masking the goodies. Thats why this idea came up.
