Possibly yes. It is also good solution.
You can change R37 value or put trimmer instead to see the difference.
Also i think that 555 stage can be improved further

I do trust my own archive from hard disk.
I do make SMW every once in a while, respecting the schematic and pcb that i have.
What to answer?
I don't think too much on SMW concept any more.
I just repeat the diy without much of a thinking. Since it is proven and works alright.
But nobody stops you to experiment and try any other solution.
That is very good way to learn and progress.
It doesn't really counts what i say here, it counts only what you find that works for you.
Go ahead and do it your way. I can only salute that.

I used both 2.7k and now I am using now 27k both are working I asked only to be sure don't worry about it.
Really I don't know how to thank you it's the best diy project I had ever try
