.....well it looks like the next big gold finding detector is here.

    https://www.minelab.com/gpz-8000

If it doesnt find gold you can always use the coil as a dunny seat in the bush if you get caught short.

I rarely visit Facebook and other popular social networks, today I happened to visit... a whole flood of posts about that model!
I was just going to comment and have a good laugh at that freaking coil... but you beat me to it Paul!
That's how they decided to economize in ML; buy a cheap toilet seat and wind a dozen turns of wire on it...

Generally people tend to not easily accept change or anything they're not used to. Let's wait to see it's capabilities before we judge it boys.

I can't believe it! It even has a SCSI hard drive (instead of the top floppy)!!! Please tell me which is the hardest AI model so I can take action right away!

                MC68000!
Somewhere in the attic I have a book from the '80s dedicated to just that processor.
The book is a few kilos weight! Today they call it a "datasheet"...

Don't make fun of these probes, they have 3 coils, with the receiver above the plane of the transmitter, and feedback coil . I just don't like the way it's attached to the stick

I saw the 8000 last week at the Wedderburn Jamborie. I also heard a lot of dunny seat jokes. Based on the shape of the coil and what the engineer told me, I think the 18" (and also the 13") most closely follow this configuration:

I was told the main RX coil is on the outside perimeter, the TX coil is smaller and elevated, and there in an RX bucking coil near the TX. The 17" coil is designed for high EMI and is different, more like the classic coaxial coils of the 70s and 80s:

I got to swing it a few minutes and hear the new stereo audio and my first impression was "Yikes, that's awful." But maybe with some learning time it will become useful.

We just need someone with a hacksaw to confirm.

I have an idea! I'll invest in a hacksaw and you provide me with a coil!
