Don't make fun of these probes, they have 3 coils, with the receiver above the plane of the transmitter, and feedback coil . I just don't like the way it's attached to the stick

I saw the 8000 last week at the Wedderburn Jamborie. I also heard a lot of dunny seat jokes. Based on the shape of the coil and what the engineer told me, I think the 18" (and also the 13") most closely follow this configuration:


I was told the main RX coil is on the outside perimeter, the TX coil is smaller and elevated, and there in an RX bucking coil near the TX. The 17" coil is designed for high EMI and is different, more like the classic coaxial coils of the 70s and 80s:


I got to swing it a few minutes and hear the new stereo audio and my first impression was "Yikes, that's awful." But maybe with some learning time it will become useful.
