I have found a scope and wanna now your opinion.
C1-68 1Mhz I think its ld but can I use this to reach your results in nulling coils and tracing TGS.
I have never used scope so.....please help.
About coins I think you have luck and you have found broken pottery full of those?!!!?!?!
What were they?Small Roman coins?Or?
I have spoted few areas all are used buy romans like in your case.
I think we have similar places.
But not a single coin so far......Damn.
Old mountin fortress and villages.I will send you some pictures to your e-mails so you can give your impresions.

Ivconic this detector with 40cm coil is IB too and 6kHz I think,1000 steps earth filter,modern disc and ......... bla,bla,bla but have digg many ithems and a lot of coins.
And I have the feeling that I can`t go in the ground at all.........
I am pretty shore that the probleme is in nulling coil and my device is ok.

Constantine mostly...few Sesterz, few Folis...most of those were small bronze...mixture from I to IV century...
No not broken potery...those were spreaded on 50x50m area...

You can try to reverse RX coil wires and adjust again GEB potenciometer.

Yes a 1mhz scope will do the job.But i dont know where you found such a slow scope

I also just made your charger for 12v batteries,but its seems that I put some TR wrong or my adapter is to week /but I think its not/.Because with no load I have only conected adaptor to circuit and have a upper led diode/I have put red there?/is flashing and at the Battery + and - spots I have 4.07v?!?!?!!?
I have subsitued I think 2 TR's and maybe put them in wrong position.
But I dont have my list with replacements here with me.So next time

Must be. I made over 15 pieces of that charger. Transformer choice is very important in this design. You must put transformer with output AC 14V and more...BUT NOT LESS than 14V. I usually do put 15V, small transformer.
Also that 22-30 ohm resistor is limiting charging current. You must choose proper one, according to battery you will charge. For 12V/1.3Ah i usually use 30ohms for slow charge and 10ohms for fast charge. But as slower - the better. So you can put 27-30 ohm there...no worries.
You must done something wrong, cose schematic is 100% accurate...
Transistors are not critical, you may put what ever you want, respecting approx. datas of originals... Usually i do put BD136 there with a small heat sink on it..
So...check again..

But I am still thinkng that I miss something.Max say 35-38cm for 3,2 coin.!?!?!?

Where you digg those 250 coins?From fortress or from village?I still cant notice those good spots!?!?I am shore that you first see the place and now that there is something and then start detect.

I have noticed that my TGS is very stabile in light soil,but when I go to a mountin fortress it start bla,bla,bla,bla.....the interesting thing is that I saw from two different persons coins found there with old IB's and both have almost the same I think beach comber or what ever,the point is that I have more advanced machine TGS.And still 0..
I were going to ask you again what about 40 cm DD coil?
Or unless 32cm?What will be the number of TX and RX windings?
Because I went and drink coffe with my old friend and he have one detector that I am not shore about the principals of working but its seems that have DD 40 cm and the results are VERY good!!
He have no trouble detecting a small silver piece 2X2 at 50cm in the GROUND!!!
I saw his colection!WWWWow.Before I were shore that I will smash him with my TGS but now.............A lots of coins and other stuffs all are prshes.

Yes we have snow here. 20cm high. Damn! I hate snow!
Thos 250 coins were pretty rare result. Dont count on that oftenly.
Usually i do have founds between 10-30 coins per day.
Also there are other items, not only coins.
Terrain....hhhmmm! Hard question. You have to explore some historic events.
You should ask people,visit some meetings, exchange informations...Join some club. Prospectors club.
Usually i do visit old roman locations,byzant locations etc.
You have to investigate all the historic literature possible.
If you want to experiment and take wild guesses, other words to discover brand new location, than you must use brain and good logic.
Go outdoor, examine hills,mountains,old roads, forests...
Walk,walk,walk...it is healthy! Try to put your self in a position of old roman.
If you were there, in the past, what road you will use,where you will put castle, village,supply...Try to find old,dry river,spring racks...
Examine releif....
I do use Google Earth frequently in combination with topographic maps 1:25000....
Also there are huge data resources on the internet, historical, geographical, ethnological, cultural...
Main archeological locations are pretty good starting point to evolve further theories. It is not easy...but it is very interesting and educational!

I guess you still have nulling problems with your coil.Also, it is possible that you have some lacks in your device too. It is difficult to remotely fix your problems...

40cm DD coil....as many times explained, size of a coil defining the use of detector.
Larger the diammeter of coil - more problems with GEB. Worse pinpointing, less sensitivity on small items (coins).
Another significant factor is working frequency. At 14.6kHz i do not suggest coils over 27cm.. Yes i made 32cm eliptical coil. But i get better overall results with 27cm coil than with 32cm. With 32cm i can detect coin at 5% more depth, but also gain more instabillity, more falses.
Pinpoitning is better with smaller coil, too.
32cm coil is suitable for prospecting, search for larger items,deposits at higher depths...up to 1m and even more.
27 cm soil is .... let's say medium size coil. Good in many cases. Versatile.
Best coil for coins should be 18-20cm diammeter coil.
I am planing to make small coil for TGS. Just for coins,grains and small items.

I am winding another coil today DD 255X137.About nulling I noticed that I have good performance around 600 mV maybe like yours but when I null further I loose depth.What shell I try?I null from LF 353 pin 7,because with your previous method directly from RX ends I have found that is too dificult to solder and desolder again and again/I have to moove my things 5-6 times a day put in-then put out............boring and messi.
I now that if I have osciloscope the things will be different,but I dont hav one.
Only cheep multimeter with 200mV range,but I trust more on 2V range.
I noticed that under 150mV in 2v range I have to work hard to get lower valuals...........

I'm fine! and you ?

I null always same way: resistor+cap+rx coil in parallel and then use scope to reach mV area.

Resistor = 1K , capacitor = 15nF for this coil.

All the rest as in Ivconic's post about coil... turns equals , everything as close as possible... apart shield but shield have few to do with nulling, at least in this kind of coils.

I detect 10eur-cents from 28cm in disc mode and from 29-30cm in all metal, on air.

Sometimes acting on geb the distance increase a bit on air; in soil is of course less, I've one at 20cm on test garden and detect it easy. I think that 24-25 is my maximum on soil for it.
