Ask White's, Minelab, Fisher, Cscope, Garrett...Originally posted by der_fisherman View PostDoes an aluminium shaft affect sensitivity in any way shape or form?

Ask Carl!
...
No...of course not. Shaft is made from Al pipe.. but lower segment is usually made from plastic.
Maybe 30-50cm long it is.
Should not affect nothing at that distance..

I have tried several times to bend aluminum tubing to make S-Rod for detector. No luck at all. I have tried several methods and just have not been able to do it without kinks or cracks. This would be an excellent subject for a thread if someone has the knowledge. It certainly isn't me.Originally posted by Wiltran View PostIvconic, your MD looks professional! BTW do you bend your own aluminum pipe? I tried to bend alu. pipe with bad results!

So he told me about steel spiral, used to bend Al pipes!
Steel spiral is maybe 1mm less in diameter than Al pipe.
Involve spiral into Al pipe and set it at exact spot.
Than bend the pipe!
Splendid!
Al pipe should not break nor deform.... steel spiral is there to prevent that..
I must try that!
So simple...but so hard to recall such idea!

Thanks Jerry and Ivconic for the reply! Ive tried filling with sand, but if the sand is not contained the alum still splits. Inserting a steel spiral spring would probably work if it was a perfect fit. They used a steel spring to fit over brakes line to bend it. I could probably just buy the bent pipes somewhere, but I get a feelng of accomplishment if I do it myself.

I tried it with a steel spring inside and used a jig for forming and I got almost far enough and it cracked. I suspect I did not have the proper kind of aluminum. It was the right size but just something I had around here. Also have tried sand and got kinks that time, actually a couple times with each method.Originally posted by ivconic View PostHalf an hour ago i talked to a friend over Gtalk on that subject.

I envy the nice bends in the commercial stuff.
One more thing, lots of people are sending their At Pro's in for new shafts with cam locks. They keep the old poles, so that may be a source of getting ready made poles.

At first
nice work ivconic and selim
(i like the CE sign at the frontpanel - ready for european market)
@jerry and wiltran
you should try to fill the alu pipes with birds sand from supermarket or pet store then bending
you can clamp the alu pipe among two trees or at the pipes from a fence gate that´s the cheapest way
im waiting for the kit from silverdog
hope my wife give me some time at night to solder

A lot of Chinese goods also have a CE mark, but the C and E are too close together. Some claim that it stands for China Export.Originally posted by ivconic View Post"..(i like the CE sign at the frontpanel - ready for european market).."

Almost......
Perhaps you should change it to either SE or IE.
