270 turns of 0.20mm etc is difficult to handle. It's too many turns to bind and adjust the inductance for DIYr. Is there alternative to this? Just if thicker wire and least turns vcould make it.

Yes you can use a variable cap, in conjunction with another cap, but it would have to be in the 100's of pico-farad range to be of any use, as far as the old radio caps, you could search the data on those. I think they would be good,They should range in the pico farads. depends on the band and type of radio. Look for the datasheet and pinout info as they carry multiple pins.

Use an online resonance calculator to compute the value of the capacitor.

the data on page one works correctly if you use DD size and shape thats in the TGSL 101 instructions

TX wire from 0.70 to 35 laps - 0.587 mH - within 1 mF capacitor
    RX wire from 0.15 to 270 laps - 35.6 mH - 0033 mF condenser

    or for a concentric https://www.geotech1.com/forums/show...concentric+idx

The pinpoint tone is a sign that the detector is working, at least partially.(The pinpoint feature is an all metal channel) and since you put coils with wrong inductance and most likely unbalanced, then the pinpointer will sing)

Try winding the Tx coil first as its inductance is small and will not use up much wire. You can connect the 7mH coil to the reciever but you must calculate a parallel tune capacitor for a RX resonance of 6.59kHz.

Then you can balance these coils on scope and see if the circuit is working. At least you should be able to verify that the detector circuit is detecting a target. Once this is certain, you can then proceed to make the proper RX coil.

    Good luck.

Dbanner I want to save the magnetic wire as markets and courier service are closed and may remain so for many months more. So far only managed success with one felezjoo out of two. Blew up my baracuda project few days ago while searching for tone. Tgsl, hammerhead on the bench.

    Let's examine this statement.

I assume your plan is to make a proper working unit. Correct?

Like it or not, a working unit requires the correct coil. No?

So sooner or later you are going to have to make the coil. No?

Might as well go ahead and make the coil. No?

Pinpoint tone is a good sign.

First time I ever heard of some one describing a pinpoint tone as being melodious.

Chu, you always make me smile.

    Good luck.
