hi all
how can i make idx to be slow motion machine in order to be used with largE dd coil ?

I wouldn't bother here in the UK. To compliment a factory 8" coil I built a 10" and 12" coil.

The 12" rarely got an outing. The discrimination doesn't cut out iron completely when you use everyday settings. The bigger the coil the more iron Thats under it the more cracks and pops you get per swing.


8" and 10" were the sweet spot for coverage verses false signals with the ability to find lead and copper alloy.

Why not just use ONLY : the Coil circuit of Q1 + Q2 + etc, the TX and RX Coils, NE5534, and Lf347 (only use the upper p5,p6,p7 OpAmp and p1,p2,p3 OpAmp).
Deisregard the MCP602 in the Arduino IDE Schematic - replaced with the second Lf347 (p1,p2,p3) OpAmp.

Disregard the Lm393 + 4066. Let the Arduno IDE sepparate TX High and Low using a wire from the Q1 Collector - TxCoil, to calculate he R / X Signals spliitting with the Arduino Code.

Disregard the Lm358 + Lm393 Amplitude and Audio circuitry. The Arduino gets that anyway from the Lf347 to AnalogIn.

The Arduino could measure the TX (maybe even Transmit itself), and use this to split the R / X signals from the Lf347 in the Software Code.
The Arduino can also get the overall Amplitude from the Lf347 R/X signal, and output the Speaker Sounds accordingly.

=> This would simplify things a lot.

I have swapped out U1 U2 U3 U5 U8.
tx is working.
still full tone...

I have been using the working board as a reference and even the same coil socket even without a coil attached there is a constant tone..

I have a second idx board that makes a constant tone but if I set it to pinpoint it works but in reverse eg, constant tone and tone breaks when there is metal near the coil.
any ideas on the cause?

all metal in reverse sounds like the RX or TX wires are swapped over on the socket. Compare to your working board.

I dragged out the old idx today and I was way off.. I have 570 nf on the tx to get 6.7khz what should I shoot for on the rx its been a while..

Might have to do the same. Acquired a classic I. The board is the same as the IDX so would only have to swap the parts over for a much nicer build.

Tx-6.59kHz and Rx-4.6kHz possibly. Sounds right.

This is why I suggested using coil generator circuit posted by kt315, you can work out PRECISE self resonance of your particular coil, so you can choose PRECISE cap values for PERFECT tuning of your coil to your detector.

my cz6a Quicksilver coil is 1mH tx, 7 mH rx
You can try on rx from 10 to 27 nf, all work but in my opinion 15 nf have the best perfomance as deep, GB and stability.
